Drunkards and Whores:Asprin and I are proud to tell you we are releasing the new album by Judith and Holofernes titled Abra??a a Tristeza. Judith and Holofernes are a band from San Francisco who play acoustic folk music inspired by traditional Portuguese ballads, known as fado. Melancholic, longing, solitary shit. For example:[/b]"Maybe Liqour, Maybe Blood"I call out at nightJust to push my luckIn the mood to fightOr maybe in the mood to fuckI call out at nightWarning of a floodIt may be liquor, it may be blood-- and --"Blessed Us with Reason"The sun shines down on our facesA cool breeze brushes our skinWe???re fewer than when we first startedBut we???re stronger than we???ve ever beenThe wounds have not healed wellBut the battle scars are beautifulReminders that we won???t do that againOr at least we hope so.----------The album is available through us for $10.It's full-length, available on CD and LPMore words, pictures, sounds, order info here:http://www.vanguardsquad.com/store/vgs004.phpVinyl enthusiasts/nerds should note this was pressed on pure black virgin vinyl. With jackets made by hand (and with love) in Portland, Oregon, using a letterpress and postconsumer waste, bloodred paper with eco-friendly silver ink. I happen to think it came out quite nice.A handful of strutter have suffered some good head from the Judith crew already, and we offer a mighty thank you to them for their support. Valeu a pena.Copies are slowly making it to stores and distributors, but we wanted to give y'all the first look. If you've ever been drunk and fucked someone you probably shouldn't have, you should check this record out. If you've ever buried a dear friend well before his time, you need this. If you sit sometimes wondering if people will remember you to be better than you were, then order this, please. If you've done all this, and much worse, yet still trudge on... then just pretend for a minute that I'm right. There's a longer thing I wrote about the band here:http://www.vanguardsquad.com/comrades/judith.phpAnd their website here:http://fadocore.com/Sweetness, please be safe,~Bam...for those that remember...

    SAN FRANCISCO FOLKS:

    Vanguard Squad Presents[/b]

    Thursday, July 26th

    Last of the Blacksmiths
    Sleeper Waves
    Judith and Holofernes

    at The Make-Out Room
    3225 22nd St, San Francisco
    9:00pm | $6 | 21 and over

Don't give me that, yeah, but I wash my hair on Thursday shit. This is something serious. Judith and Holofernes are worth the door price, alone. Plus, you might get to hear some of that new stuff their working on (I kill us all with holy fingers).

Last of the Blacksmiths have finished their new record, so besides their usual stable of warbly tremendousness, they have some new slow burners that knock my socks off ("By The Cottonwoods" especially), that if you're interested in being engaged, you will be moved.

But, the real reason not to miss this event, Sleeper Waves.

By my account, this will be the third show they've played in the eight years they've been a band. As mysterious as the maritime phenomenon they're named after, their whole shit leaves people perplexed. (I thought they were from Honduras? "Yo, is that the dude I see sleeping in the park?" Nah, I think he works at the bakery.) The last show they played was so loud my dude couldn't hear straight for like 3 days. Although, they do have their own font, so you know they got, like, a target audience to think of.

If you're into stuff like melting into the trees and listening to a creaking screen door and stories of yore and hash and robotrons--not to mention a queer fascination with fucking the ocean--then you're gonna have a good time.

Be engaged by a genuine expression of freedom.

ART WILL NEVER TAKE ORDERS, WHATEVER HAPPENS

It's 21 and over, so be warned. Be safe out there. They'll be plenty of stuff for sale, and even something for the softies.

That is, tomorrow, San Franciso, $6, Make Out Room[/b]

It was excellent. First time I'd seen Sleeper Waves (LOUD and great) and Nth time I'd seen the other two bands. J&H did several new songs, too, which was great to hear. Passed out some Reggae Under Raps to Mantecans and bought his and hers (Judith's and Holofernes's?) T-shirts, too.

Sounds great. One of these days I will get to check all these folks out in concert.

Speaking of Reggae Under Raps, I was playing the CD today while B & I were running errands and she told me to tell you that "she's a fan and would wear a Ross Hogg shirt around"....

...so umm, dude, (don't) page my wife.
