Way before my time, but definitely the pinnacle of what clubbing should be about (and sure as hell isn't in NY anymore). My cousin used to go to Danceteria all the time and met his wife there I'm pretty sure (she was dating Fab Five Freddy at the time). Not for nothing, but this shit is way more interesting than the same fucking flogged-and-bitten-to-death old school hip-hop flyers.
Never made it to the Mudd Clubb. Did go to Maxwell's Kansas City once (past its prime at this point I'll admit).
Also saw The Cure's North American debut at the Ritz but don't remember it because I was passed out on the bar (quaaludes!).
Another great 80's New York venue was the Lone Star Cafe. Not much for hip-hop or disco but great for roots rock, rockabilly and country.
