Overall I've got to roll with

but I did finally get a reasonably price copy of this recently...

And S/T is a tough one to mess with.

    THE PARLIAMENTS

  • The S/T joint is hard as fuck. "Mamma what is a funkadelic?" oh shit! The bass playing on that whole album, got you open. Funk you very much indeed. If I had to make a top 5.

    1. S/T
    2. Maggot Brain
    3. Osmium
    4. Free Your Mind and you ass will follow
    5. Cosmic Slop

  • I've got to go with Osmium. That's proabably been my most listened to album over the past couple of years. That shit does not get old. I was listening to that shit this morning on my way to work and just think "Damn, these lyrics are so so so, right on with everything."

    Homosapien...progessing...

Sentimental favorite because I used to blast this record in the front room of my Grandparents' house every time I was visiting:

    "We are children of production
    produced in conjunction
    with the urgency of our
    Dr. Funkenstein"

    oh and...

    "Gettin' to know you
was one of the things that I
    chose to do
    baby I love you
    and the world
    that surrounds you...

    FOREVER CLASSIC

    I've never heard that version!

    Here is my Top 5:

    Funkadelic - ST
Parliament - The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein (one of the first funk LPs I bought)
    Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop
Parlet - Play Me Or Trade Me
    Parliament - Motor Booty Affair

i'll do up Red Hot Mama tonight unless someone beats me to it. It's also on the Complete Invictus Recordings CD, although it's different from the 45, I'll put up both.

I really like The Parliments Version of "Good Old Music" on Revilot.Just sounds allot tougher than the Self Titled verison from Funkadelic lp.

  • I think I love the Osmium era the best.

The band was a tight unit and the music really stands up, I don't think Eddie Hazel ever sounded as good as he does on the Invictis stuff and the Ruth Copeland albums.

As far as the later 'proper' P-Funk stuff goes, I think that Bootsy's Rubber Band was the absolute peak of brilliance, especially the live shows.

    So, yeah, records..Hmm:

-Osmium (UK CD reissue with non-LP cuts & 45s)
-Ruth Copeland's 'I am what I am' & 'Self Portrait'
    -Stretchin' Out
    -Up For the Downstroke
    -Chocolate City
-Let's Take It To the Stage

Cosign, this is my favorite post-Maggot Brain Funkadelic record. They got Eddie Hazel back in full force, and he co-wrote every song...

"Good Thoughts Bad Thoughts" aka Maggot Brain's mellower cousin =
