HowHot is Too Hot ? (warp-strut related)

what do you guys consider to be an acceptable tempature for a room full of records? With all this heatwave schitt, i dont wanna end up w/ a room full of ashtray raers. Thoughts?

    The problem is less the heat than direct sunlight. Keep'em out of the sun and you should be OK.

    One of the AC units do not work in my quarters.

    It's 90% humidity out here (and it's been like that for the past month).
    Record sleeves are starting to 'bow'. Some records are warping.

    as im sure many people here can attest, all it takes is about 6 hours by a window under the sun. when a record sees the sun its like WARRRRRRP MEEEEE

    i have little barriers set up in my room to block the light from hitting my records. i am on the third floor of a 100+ yr old house and it gets HOT. So far so good, i have been monitoring the situation throughout the summer (records used to be in a finished basement until i moved during the winter.) and so far i'm in the clear. i always keep my records upright in wine and liquor boxes that i've cut down a bit making sure that they arent all leaning back on the last record and so far no problems.

    sell some raers and buy an AC unit.

    what about records in a moving truck driving across the country for 7 days? shit has me shook.

    you should be fine if you pack the records tightly in uhaul boxes, leaving little space for them to move around. Without direct sunlight, you'd mostly be dealing with edge warps of some sort and if packed tight, they'd store more or less in the proper form.

    I just spent 3 weeks on the road buying records and had close to 200 LP's in my trunk during this time. Not a single one warped. I'm talking about driving through new mexico, arizona, western texas, socal, nevada, etc.

    With that said, i come back to texas, buy 8 records at a shop and put them in the track for 45 minutes and they all have slight edgewarps now.

    oh well.

    I live in Phoenix and I can't get any records in the mail until late September at least. They will warp even when not exposed to sunlight. Shit, one even warped on me I had help at the PO. I went in to get it and the box was hot as hell with warped records inside.

    MikeB... if you have your records in plastic sleeves, stored fairly tightly in an expedit or bookshelf... they shouldn't bow because of humidity. It has been pretty hot and humid up here and I've never had an LP bow except once when I had it sitting out bare.

    I guess it's time to invest in some poly sleeves.
