I agree wih 98.6% of all the above.
When I think of essential hip hop,
'Classic' simply becomes the key tone...just in my own head of course.
    To each his own.

    Nas- illmatic
    Wu-Tang-Enter the 36 chambers
    Pharcyde- Bizzare Ride
    Dre- chronic
Redman- What the album, there is a Darkside
    Souls of Mischief
    The Roots
    Dr. Octagon
    Snoop- doggie style
    Dare I say- FreeStyle Fellowship
    Digable Planets
    Del- No need for alarm
    Outkast
    Goodie Mob

My guess is there are probably more.

    ultramagnetic mc??s - critical beatdown
    organized konfusion - stress
    gravediggaz - 6 feet deep
    beatnuts ep
souls of mischief - 93 til infinity
    digable planets - blowout comb
    quasimoto - the unseen
jeru the damaja - the sun rises in the east (who else had burning twin towers on the cover + "you can??t stop the prophet" back in 93?)

ATLiens is my favorite. Southerplayaa... was pretty shocking when it first dropped though.

    DAS EFX & BONE

Essential for its delivery of lyrics or not? I'm on the fence. Both are classic, but should Becky cop?

Obv its nothing on the debut or the EP but I think its still a pretty great album, more mature R&Bish shit but still some incredible Pete Rock work.

1st Das Efx might be a classic. Probably not though. Bone's first album was good although it got old real fast. That shit was so big with the white trash and asian gangster crowd it was ridiculous. I think of Everett when I hear "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" Don't let Archaic see you giving Bone props. Its goin to turn into a 15 page Blowed post soon.
