"Calling You" by Jevetta Steele from this film is the song that first came to mind when I read the post title but it's more depressing than sad really.
The saddest song I think would be Arvo P??rt's Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten.
To me, it's a great style piece that doesn't have much replay value.

i am willing to be ridiculed and say that some Joy Division songs are beyond bleak

any song about armed men killing your elderly mother by throwing her out of a 2nd story window before burning her house down is pretty
...but if you don't speak English it's just a funky, feelgood afrobeat tune.
lyrically i want to say Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone again (naturally)"...phuck those lryics make me want to slit my wrists, yet the melody is so nice and happy/upbeat
