Hoss Cartwright does "A Beatnick Out West" which is worth the price of admission alone....

this man is a vampire.
Also, is already weekend over there? You crazy first world nations...
Every day is a week-end when you're looking for records(Either that or I lost my job and have been too afraid to tell my wife and family yet)
Huh! I just got this one with a B&W cover:
Is it a Pompeii thing? I know Black Man's Soul has
two covers, also, but I thought that was one on Atco one on Pompeii...
No mention of Atco on this one....I've been told by some locals that the color cover is 1st Press but there is no way for me to know for sure....this was a very weird local Dallas label that released a wide variety of styles.....most of them bad.
Daly-Wilson Feat. Marcia Hines
Francoise Hardy - Let My Name Be Sorrow
45s
Beastie Boys - She's Crafty (NZ OG in pic sleeve)
Hi Revving Tongues - Watermelon Man (NZ funky/jazz)
Jacqui James - Don't Touch Me (double - only the 2nd copy I've ever seen, killer NZ female soul from 69 - included on my female soul 45 mix last year)
Shadows Of Knight - Gloria (Denwich)
Soul Survivors - Expressway To Your Heart (Crimson)
Candi Staton - Sweet Feeling (Fame) (this 45 is the shiz, both sides are killer)
Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight (UK OG)

Persuaders- s/t
Stevie Wonder- Where i'm coming from
Garage sale at a buck a pop.
Gorgeous Leroy tune
Dread take on Alton Ellis Studio 1 classic "i'm Just a Guy"
Barrington's best tune? Serious bidness dub and vocal-wise.
K in Canada.
Also, what the deal on that Little Janice album?
I saw Dabney Guzzo flossin' it on his female
soul "wall of fame" and meant to ask then...
yeah the James Carr is og. Found it in some dude's collection who wasn't a soul-man, and he traded it to me for a double of something he wanted. It's super clean too. What an amazing record.
I'm not sure about the background to the Little Janice. The Pzzaz label was based out Los Angeles (Sunset Blvd). What I do know is it's a great soul record with some amazing production. I had seen it around in books and I was there when Guzzo found his for super cheap. I thought it was worth the $40 I shelled out for it.
Little Janice released some 45's under another name (Janice something or other) this was her only full length. I'd been after it for a while, I got nothing but love for local female soul LP's. All you need to know is the music is wonderful, ranges from funk to blues to softer soul. The cover art is ill and its well worth acquiring.

Naw, I've been feeling sick for a couple days now, so I decided to take it easy. PM me sometime this week if you want to get out to LA for some store visits, followed promply by a music listening/ j rolling good ol time.
Nice haul. What's the Ade label, number and date of release? Same for the Ebeneezer. Thanks in advance. That African comp is a nice find and a good start for those seeking raers on US/Euro labels.
Thanks. Here's the info.
Sunny Ade & His African Beats
Vol.7 (African Songs ASI-L)
not sure of the year, but definately 70's
and
Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey & His International Brothers
Vol.4: Aiye Wa A Toro (Decca WAPS 48)
1972
I have a few posts here, and have been lurking on/off for a couple years, but this is my first finds post. Not sure why I even want to try to post my shit next to these other raers, but I was real happy with what I came up with on the Pittsburgh yardsale circuit today.
Kinetic Ideals - Angular Sky b/w Fade Away 12" - Manequin Records
Decent post punk from Ontario.
Neil Brahe D. D. S. - Soild Gold Dental Assistant - Project D
Mixtape-Timmy dental training album.
Various Artists - TMI-015 - TMI
Awesome 1983 comp of underground pittsburgh post punk/new wave/art rock. Anyone have a tracklist for this? Mine looks like a test press.
Stutter - collisions/dialogues - TMI
1983 moody artrock bizzareness from Louisville.
Mountain - Climbing! - Bell
I don't know too much about psych rock, but this sounds great.
Violent Femmes - s/t - Slash
Otis Redding - The Best Of... - ATCO
The Turtles! - Golden Hits - White Whale
Earth Wind Fire - All N' All - Columbia
Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees - Columbia
Roy Ayres - Feeling Good - Polydor
Commission on Jewish Affairs - Invitation To Yiddish - American Jewish Congress
Stuff from local spots, Dedham record fair today...the Soulful Strings
is the only mailbox joint - Billy Wooten is all over that record,
as well as Cash McCall, Phil Upchurch, etc. Shout out to Strutter
KK for the heads-up on the spot for Third Power and Mandrake Memorial
LP's...2 nice psych albums for $10 a pop - Third Power is pretty rare
and really good. Third Power - Feel So Lonely - MP3
Finally copped a good Arthur Alexander set at the same spot, been wanting
his Dot stuff on vinyl for years: Arthur Alexander - You Don't Care - MP3 - he is GOAT material.
Dedham show landed me the Junior Wells LP, which is a monster, Aorta is
some dope Chi psych, nice 360 OG press, Merry Go Round is Mint OG and
a fantastic LP...I had read so many bad things about that Pretty Things LP,
I expected it to sound like Andre Kostelanetz or something, all the freakbeat
dudes dismiss it because there are strings and horns (and yet when the Kinks
or Beatles do it they are "genius?") but this record freaking rules...totally
dope songs and the orchestra is used perfectly and mostly unimposing throughout:
Pretty Things - There Will Never Be Another Day - MP3
Also got some 45's at the show:
This 45 is pure unadulterated by a group Jimi was an ex-member of.
Johnny Jones and the King Casuals - Purple Haze MP3
Talk about "lyrical blunt!"
And the Waxidermy?? find of the week, from Goodwill:
Atlanta gospel LP from 1985 that includes a cover of
the Impressions' "It's Alright" and the title track which is rawness.
A little too rinked for MP3 though
How's this Cyril Paul Lp? I don't have a player with me, and was a bit curious. I really liked the images on the back:
Oh, it's very, very good. Monk Higgins and Charles Stepney take turns
arranging songs...some funky almost Dyke/JB style, some straight but
heavy blues...loud drums, great playing throughout, and a Higgins-arranged
instro that cooks. Definitely one of the 2 or 3 best funky/soulful blues
records I have ever purchased.
