Obi strips on records - who cares?! (RR)

I'm finding myself increasingly attracted to Japanese pressings. That said, I've never really understood the hype surrounding 'obi strips' that accompany most Japanese pressings.Japanese speaking strutters can correct me, but I believe 'obi' to mean 'sash'. Who cares?! Obi strips are useless to me, yet so many record buying folks go ape-shit over them!Me? I trash 'em. I will leave the insert in there, as it usually contains track listing and session personnel in English, but as I don't read Japanese, and the 'obi' cannot be played on my record player, it goes in the garbage. What do you, fair reader, think about obi strips? Yea or Nay?

I love OBIs... I would buy another copy of a joint I had with the OBI just to get a complete copy, then I would flip the one without.

In Japan, OBIs greatly affect the price of some Jazz LPs or Soundtracks...

    peace.
