I really like this record. I know it ain't for everyone, but the rocked out sections REALLY rock, and the changes are stupid... I mean, son montuno? wha?
It gets a little diffuse at times, but that's not always a bad thing.
Can you be pretentious and genuine at the same time? of course, if you genuinely ARE pretentious.
But don't mistake complexity for pretention. Just because it has more than three chords doesn't mean it's automatically Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio.
