Effects Boxes VS Effects/Sampling Mixers ??

Allright Y'all, I'm looking for your feedback/opinions here.I've had limited playtime with external effects processors(efx-500) and am curious what anyone might think of these types vs mixers w/ effects/sampling engine built in (djm-909, urei, etc.) Pros/cons either way? personal favorites?
