Not raer, but solo acoustic versions of Powderfinger, Sweet Joni, and Clancy Can't Even Sing that melt and are pretty easy to get yer hands on.

  • There's some amazing demo stuff on the Buffalo Springfield boxed set, that are basically Neil solo.

Even Richard Nixon Has Got Soul on Decade is the business.

pretty easy to find this one

  • the version of "Birds" on the B-side of the "only Love can break your heart" 45. not rare i'm guessing, it's a full band version whereas the LP version is just piano/voice. real short- story is that he just forgot to sing the last verse and ended the song- but so beautiful.
one of my alltime favorite Neil songs.

I was told of something on the lines of a Buffalo Springfield boxed set coming out in the near future. Is this the one I may have been told about? Has the near future arrived?

Anyone heard any news about the Neil Young archives that have apparently been in the works for decades? There was a point where he had someone working on them full time, but he keeps scrapping stuff.

Talk about a dream job....Neil Young sifter. i'd apply.

I got it for Christmas a few years ago. If memory serves it's on Rhino.

Slightly OT, but good Neil Young mixtape material -
the various artists benefit for The Bridge tribute album
from the early 90's is one of the most succesful
attempts at having a bunch of bands cover an artist
    that I have ever heard.

Admittedly, I haven't listened to it in
a few years, so I'm not sure the early-90's
    indie-rock-superstar lineup will stand
the test of time, but I have fond memories
of the Flaming Lips doing "After the Goldrush"
Sonic Youth tackling the Trans gem "Computer Love"
and the Pixies take on "Winterlong."

If you bristle at some of the names, bear in mind that
it was recorded in 1989, long before most of these groups
    had truly jumped the shark:

    1. Barstool Blues - Soul Asylum
    2. Don't Let It Bring You Down - Victoria Williams/Williams Brothers
    3. After The Goldrush - The Flaming Lips
    4. Captain Kennedy - Nikki Sudden & The French Revolution
    5. Loop - Cinnamon Girl
    6. Helpless - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
    7. Mr. Soul - Bongwater
    8. Winterlong - The Pixies
    9. Computer Age - Sonic Youth
    10. Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Psychic TV
    11. Lotta Love - Dinosaur Jr.
    12. Needle And The Damage Done, The / Tonight's The Night - Henry Kaiser
    13. Out Of The Blue - B.A.L.L. (bonus track)
    14. Words - Henry Kaiser (bonus track)

    PS
If you want any of those tracks for your mix, I can
dig out my CD (I hope) and upload an MP3 for you - just
    ask.

The Dino Jr song is horrible. I can't think of a tune on there that I liked.

I posted an ebay auction a while ago. It was of Neil's first 45 when he was a teenager. I went for 2k.

I don't remember if they had an mp3. I think not. It was the one used for the upcoming ARCHIVES box which is going to come out when I have grandchildren.
