It's like Patti Smith's 'Horses' - everyone claims to love it just to be cool.
I have to totally agree with you here. There are some nice songs on PS but it is no masterpiece as many proclaim. Horses is so not a good record.
your use of 'so' as an adverb is the kind of 'my super sweet sixteen' pittle that takes any musical opinions you proffer beyond eye rolling and into guy-on-a-stretcher territory. soulstrut dudes trying to fill out their jeans but instead pissing down their pant legs.

see now THIS is where someone could legitimately proclaim:
well dude, while you were reading all of my post on soulstrut "dying of laughter", i was gettin head from a dime and skeetin in her mouth. have fun dude

You don't have to like it but you can't help but respect an album like pet sounds for its creativeness and beauty. Everytime I hear Pet Sounds and the original Smile album (the bits anyway) it melts my face everytime, regardless of if it's cool or not. I like the beatles too even after many people from this board called them the most overrated band ever.
I had to prove that I could make it alone But that's not me I wanted to show how independent I'd grown now But that's not me
I could try to be big in the eyes of the world What matters to me is what I could be to just one girl
I'm a little bit scared Cause I haven't been home in a long time You needed my love And I know that I left at the wrong time My folks when I wrote them Told 'em what I was up to said that's not me
I went through all kinds of changes Took a look at myself and said that's not me I miss my pad and the places I've known And every night as I lay there alone I will dream
I once had a dream So I packed up and split for the city I soon found out that my lonely life wasn't so pretty I'm glad I went now I'm that much more sure that we're ready

Not really a big Beach Boys fan so I still haven't heard PET SOUNDS in its entirety yet. I do like "God Only Knows," though, and recently found that I have two female vocal versions of it in my collection (King Cousins & Joey Heatherton). I really like some Patti Smith, not so big on some of it though. I dig RADIO ETHIOPIA more than HORSES that's for sure. Sorry.
Anyway I got these two interesting records this weekend.
Nice northern doublesider. Manship says it's 75 quid and the dealer knew it. But he sold it to me for $30 because we're not in England.
Okay boogie/ballad 12". I like "Rock Me" better but for $2 I was happy for just the photo and the letter.
Maybe I'll post more if I don't skeet into a dimemouth instead.
Sickest bassline I've heard in a long long time. These I got from the record show I went to this past weekend, had some good times, got reacquainted with crazy "Cult of Hate" record dealer, many raers purchased, met Strutter DJelV (Dude, I dropped the ball on Space Flight! Fargh! Looks are hella deceiving). Neglected the little guys at the show (aka 45s). Some decent stuff:
I think the Judy Mowatt is OG. Not 100%. Sonora Poncena! Dr Z is $600 raer!
Some cool soul LPs, nothing mega funky or anything.
Passage - S/T (A&M 1981 - Brothers Johnson-related gospel record) Linx - Go Ahead (Chrysalis UK 1982 - early-80's Brit-funk) Nolen and Crossley - S/T (Gordy 1981 - Plain cover white label; "Lay It On The Line" is a killer moder tune) Edmund Sylvers - Have You Heard? (Casablanca 1980 - disco soul/boogie stuff) Floaters - Float Into The Future (MCA 1979 - got it for the Nolen and Crossley-written "Nice To Have You Back" - not a bad LP) Kwick - S/T (EMI 1980) Dramatics - New Dimension (Capitol 1982)
Stack of 12 classic Linval THompson productions including
Mr Big Man - Junior Reid False Rasta - Jacob Miller MYstery Babylon - YAmi Bolo Water Pumping - Sugar Minott JAh Jah Rule - King Kong ROOTS mAN paRTY - dON cARLOS Natty Dread - Barry Brown Africa - Anthony Johnson
made my Linval Thompson game tight!
Stunningly beatiful LP from Columbia actress. Listen to Negro
A couple quality 1970-71 brazilian samba comps
Play out latin fire from Peru
More Peruvian goodness (who's got a beter band ride???)

Allow me to rephrase my earlier wording--- Patti Smith's Horses sucks balls.

I just found the LP... mostly ballads other than the single tracks. Didn't blow me away.

I really like that Companion LP...from Memphis and has an unusual prog/pop sound.
The Cookin' Mama is rare but musically pretty boring to me.
Michaelo is actually a small label press of an LP that was previously on Deram by Michael O'Gara
What's the LP with the generic cloud cover??
