You'd have to define buying blind.

don't know it's proximiy to known dope tunes (i.e. a collection)?
    don' know city of origin?
    don't know independentness?
    don't know aritst?
    Don't know producer?
    don't know songwriter?
no "popcorn" or "do the ____" in the title - i.e. don't know song?
don't recognize the origins of the label font?

    etc..., K in Canada.

p.S. Some years back I bought Richard Stoute's "Vehicle" somewhat-blind, traded a copy to a friend who then traded it to our freind Miles Cleret of Soundways Records who then repressed it on 45.

Usually $10, but I recently spent $20 on a totally unknown (to me) lp. It sucked, but fortunately it turned ot to be coveted by many a Japanese

i don't buy any unknown records, unless a friend recommended me something and explained to me what the music is like.

i NEVER buy unknown records at shops. i have to know at least the artist, a composition or the label. if i find something that looks promising and i'm really in the mood to buy a record, then i spend 10-15 euros for an lp at most. 1-3 euros for a 45.

Blind" meaning "unheard", I do it all the time on recommendation, by looking at the players, an educated guess, etc. with no set limit.

If that's the case then my spending limit is pretty well 0-$1000 seeing as that's what I'm seeking anyways.

Looking for the blind buys, K in Canada.

    Records I've bought "blind":

Ok - if you couldn't hear this 45, what's the most you would
    pay for it?

And what do you think it sounds like?

Not ym field of expertise, but my gut feeling tells me it's ass.

    Polka

THOSE FAMILIAR WITH THE LABEL INELIGIBLE TO ANSWER!

But if you guessed from the Polish writing credit,
I'll have Morrocco Mole send you an SI sneakerphone!

Now, I didn't buy this 45, it came in a free lot - but I thought
it was a good example of something that, unheard, could appear to
be a country, rock, rockabilly, EZ pop, soul jazz, funk, garage,
reggae, ANYTHING 45. Cool simple label design, too.

I've seen LP's by these guys and you have to look really hard to figure out it's Polka on a couple of them....no band picture and a name like The Dynatones gets the mind spinning.....but alas, bad Polka

"Deaf"[/b] meaning "unheard", I do it all the time on recommendation, by looking at the players, an educated guess, etc.

I do have a set monetary limit, but it all depends on the record, the circumstances. my mood, how much $$ I've got to blow, etc..

I was seriously considering buying an $8 Senor Soul vinyl reissue today, but ultimately passed. The cover versions of "It's Your Thing," "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," etc. raised a blood red flag - these songs were cliches 37 years ago when the album came out, let alone now. I'd still consider buying it later (and/or cheaper?).

I bought this one blind too, what a nice suprise I love this track, along with a bunch of other great stuff, although it wasnt a hard decision since I paid like 35 cents a 45.

aren't versions of 'it's your thing' & 'by the time I get to phoenix' what you are supposed to look for??!!??

Yeah but the biggist clue in my book is the writing credit. 'Ryniec' sounds like some oldworld whiteboy name to me.

I think Matt "Mr Finewine" has one of these 45's as his avatar on the funk 45 board ("Drop your PAnties Polka" I belive).

    Kind of a silly question.

if you can hear it somewhere then you don't need to buy it, and if you cant hear it anywhere else then its worth buying.

Its been a while since I dug, its different when you collect music from another country because you kind of have to go on faith a lot of the time.
