Speaking of gatefolds.....

Most new releases these days are on double vinyl (to avoid groove jamming I'm sure), but *no one* is doing gatefolds. It's always "two records in a pouch", usually w/ no extra liner notes. Not a fan. What gives man? These things aren't cheap, usually in the $15-18 range. Is it too cost prohibitive for a smaller indie-type label to print up gatefold jackets? It would increase the fan enjoyment of these releases immensely. What happened to the gatefold????

  • agreed... why do CDs & DVDs get all this fancy packaging nowadays, but records aren't even gatefold anymore... CD versions of albums have been getting more artwork & everything... even on labels that are supposedly more inclined toward vinyl (like stones throw)... i've been complaining about this as well... we're trying to keep vinyl alive by still buying it... the labels need to keep it alive by keeping it looking like a worthwhile purchase.

I love gatefolds... they really made a record feel like a little more thought went into it...
