Internet personas: impact on modern society

behaviours on SS are often considered to be part of an "internet persona"Can the online persona be THAT different from the real life persona of a given individual?Do our unresolved childhood traumas take the form of 1's and 0's on the information superhighway?Let's debate. At the end of the day all participants will receive one of these with the SS logo:

    I think a lot of people on the net behave in ways that they are scared to in real life as they are terrified of what the consequences would be...
    It's alway comedy to me when people get over heated and start calling one another out & making "threats" based soley on what they know about someone based on their posts/online behaviour.

    I recently made flash cards with all of the graemlins on them. I cary them around so I can use them in conversations.

    When my boss says we have to work through lunch. I hold up my card that says .

    When he tells me I can leave an hour early.

    When my girlfreind and I are listening to the radio in the car and she asks me where she heard the song before.

    When she tells me I'm an asshole

    I figure I am just a few graemlins away from neer having to speak again.

    I think the muted nature of the internet makes it so people say on this forum stuff that they would not say elsewhere because a natural "filter" has been shut off. It's like their inner child has been set free to roam the neighborhood.

    Funny. But for real: switching between doing art on the computer and on paper, I did on some occasions do foolish things on the physical art because I felt like I could hit the "undo" button. Oops.

    Here is what I think is a perfect example.

    I met Fatback one evening when he was djing at Cafe St. something. Birdman too but he didn't say much. Fatback was good natured, intelligent, and easy to talk to, me being a stranger. The only thing he had in common with his online persona was his knowledge and interest in politics. Now if you've been to the strut before and seen his posts you will know he doesn't come off quit that way.

    Since then I don't read much into persona's because it is different for the simple fact that it is not the same and it is, and can be fun, to front, be cooler than you may be known to be or whatever else you do because it makes you happy.
