Wet Panty is a slow ska/rocksteady track with him singing get out my life girl over and over for the first 30 secs and then talking about her STDs. (yer panties wet but it ain't sweat)

I just know that Liquidator as a classic ska tune but it could well be a Lalo cover.

Interesting that the Equals is on Bang - I have it pressed
on Shout, of course another of Bert Berns' labels...I'd assume
the Bang came first...maybe...dope tune regardless.

anyway, here's some stuff I copped today -
strangely, I found the Roach & Poets at 2 different stores,
even though they go together well. Last Poets was $1.99 at a
store where most things are expensive and that cover is
so ill I had to give it avatar status. Album is sick, too - best I've
heard by them. Both 5 Americans albums I've taken a chance on have
some really good shit on them, if you are into 60's beat stuff...
TX boys aping the UK beat style with their own rootsy twist...
Max Roach needs no comment. It was up on the wall, out of nowhere at
a spot I hit like 4 times a week...I said and grabbed that ish quick.

Question for the Real Headz...the Jimmy Scott that is on this Melvin
Sparks LP and also has solo shit on Westbound is not the diminuitive
Jazz singer with the crazy almost female vocal range who recorded for Savoy, right??

  • hey spliff you batty boy. nice work.

liquidator is a jamaican standard, and is actually one of the raer examples of a jamaican tune getting discovered by americans and turned into an american radio hit (staples singer's "i'll take you there") rather than the other way around.

it has nothing to do with lalo's spyspoof ost.

SPLIFF- did you get that winslow 12" at the same place as the JA 45's?

Kinda. Same place but it's basically all shit from estate auctions in BK/Q/LI/NJ area and I got the Winslow a couple of years ago. The names and melted-on label do point to a possible Windies connection but it says Kew Gdns, Queens on there which is highly unusual.

Don't know if this qualifies as a score (the last one went for $90), but I just won a Mighty Fire - Love Fantasy 12" for $18.

Hot SOca has an alright version of AIn't No Stoppin'.

Magnanimous as always, 32K in Canada. The version of Rise is better, but doesn't have the Biggie break... now that would be Hot Soca.
