    lack of a balanced DI from a crappy drummachine into PT ? I dunno. People are dumb when it comes to recording shit on a digital deck... but you know, I am a snob.

    i dont know if its protools specific.. most of the examples i can think of are shit recorded through the motu into logic..

    i understand headroom is important.. but -20db is not headroom its called barely above the noise floor...

    you ever tried bringing up the gain on a guitar recorded at minus 15+.. not a pretty sound
