personally, I like to break it down by instrument, and by that I mean I prefer songs with funky drums (except for the ride cymbal, which should remain jazzy), jazzy trumpet, funky sax on more uptempo songs, but jazzy sax on slower songs, and funky keys with just a hint, or say a smidgeon of jazz. I'd prefer no flute, and if there is a brass section then it must be funky, although it could start out jazzy and move into a more funky mode. I dig the studio techniques of late 60s blue note, so if you can recemmend me some records that fall into this category, I'd like to check them out. Preferably with nice cover art, should I decide to frame them. Also preferable sampled by Primo. Other than that though, I don't really like to "categorize" too much, so go wild with your recomendations.

yeah, but what about reffering to something as "deep ___." that's lame. i guess i just don't see the need to subgenerallize everything. why not just enjoy the music instead of having to come up with some three-pronged title to describe it.

Here's food for thought.... I don't consider myself a Jay-Z or Notorious BIG fan, and yet, some of my absolute favorite songs are Jay-Z and BIG songs. So does that actually make me a closet fan?? Or would that be like people who say they aren't racist because they have black coworker friends? I'm so confused. Also, I hate destiny's child, but love Beyonce. I dont even mean just the ass, but, like, I really like her songs!
But back to subject at hand, I generally tend to lean more towards RD's side of the fence, in that something should be enjoyed for what it is, rather than looking for something vaguely funky in said genre. That said (no chad), thats different then asking if there is anything funky on Prestige, because there are funky cuts on Prestige.
Also, I'm on vicodin right now. And I'm at work and I really want to go home, but I can't find my boss.

I mean, let's be honest here -- "funky jazz?" -- what the hell is that? Everybody knows that jazz can't possibly be played in a "funky" manner. And if it ever is, it's not jazz anymore. Geez... Come on, folks... At least try to act like you know what you're talking about.
