I just got this book for x-mas. Good stuff. It's cool cuz it lists specific setlists from DJs on certain dates. Paints a good mental picture. I've only read a chapter or two, so I can't fully endorse yet, but so far so good.

    I highly enjoyed and endorse this book.

    As a sidenote, the book's designer is one of my longtime friends, while the book's editor is one of my number-one local soul/funk/jazz cratedigging nemeses.

    Nice guy though!

    This book is genius! Playlists, interviews, pictures (would love some more from inside the clubs though) etc.

    Apprently there's a follow up coming in the future.

    It's a good book from a wonderful publishing company, Duke University Press, that operates at a consistent loss as a trade off for putting out quality reads like this. University publications are going the way of the butter churn, so vote with your dollar.
