Dizzy Gillespie on Stevie's Do I Do.....such a lame solo.
Judging from a Jazz perspective yeah, but for a pop/R&B song it fine.
See what you mean but I wasn't refering to his soloing from a jazz perspective. I think this track is quite uplifting and a solo by Dizzy could have fired it up even more but it doesn't do that at all...even within the pop/R&B idiom he could have done much better than that.
While we're still riffing on Stevie...there's a B.J. Thomas album from '71 or '72 where Stevie has a cameo appearance playing harmonica, and I think it's on a Stevie song that B.J. covered.
Extra points to B.J. for getting on the bandwagon early, just a little after Stevie went "progressive" but before he became the Influential African-American Genius we know him as today.
