Edub nailed king schlong on the bullseye. Basically they needed to edit this movie, coulda cut it down to like 2 hrs tops. This movie was definitely letharge at so many points. I think peter jackson is overhyped as well, even though this is a big budget pop movie. I thought goblet of fire was way better for same running time and pop market. The insect and dinosaur scenes were absolutely ludicrous. There's a reason this movie is tanking, [/b]all the critics rave reviews could never save this movie. It was #1 but it "only" made $50 mill which came in under expectation.
I personally thought it was amazing! BUt then, If you didnt like lord of the rings, i dont know what to say to you either.

This was movie magic of the highest caliber. If you enjoy the art of the blockbuster, then you will be awed. If you are looking for ultra realistic modern cinema, then you will be disapointed.
In my opinion, one of the movies greatest strengths was that it didnt try to offer up some psudo science jurassic park explanation for an island with dinosaurs and giant apes mysteriously still alive. Its just thats the way it is! If your the type that needs everything to be grounded in realism, you will scoff at it, but I also feel kinda sorry for you.

that sounds like a bad tagline for a Michael Bay film. Not that I hate on all Michael Bay films. Just that piece of shit "Armaggedon."
I would have loved to love that movie. Bad art at its finest. I just couldn't get over the fact that all of the world's minds got together to come up with a plan to save the world. The first step: Stopping at a sketchy Russian space station run by a crazyman.
I liked Kong but it did drag. The dino scenes got on my nerves a bit after, um, about 45 minutes! Kong did redeem hisself after he played with T-Rex's broken jaw. Little animal-nature stuff like that was the single most powerful part of the film for me. That and Kong banging on his chest atop of the Empire State Building. And Naomi Watts -- she keeps getting sexier the more you look at her; such a rare quality.
I think our man Peter Jackson has done all he can do with these huge blockbusters. I'd like to see him tackle a short and snappy 90-minute film, maybe a thriller or a love story, and just fucking nail it. Then I'd like to see old school Biblo in "The Hobbit."
guess im pretty late with this but i just saw it... yeah were slow in sweden!
i have to say that i like this alot more than both previous versions. i mean the og was basicly made to show fay wray flicker her eyelashes while screaming as much as possible to stop-motion animated pictures of kong. these effects were ahead of its time in 1933, but its 2005 now, and those fx are more charming than frightning. i got goosebumps cus some of the scenes in jacksons kong were so well animated, maybe not ahead of their time, but it will be a challange for others to top them.... and admittedly some of them were pretty damn bad aswell. and the 70s version, well that was basicly a jssica lange soft porno to me. im glad all the sexism of these old ones are removed in the new version. but the thing i liked about the movie i liked the most was the actual mood jackson got throughout the entire thing. his love for the og is undeniable, the acting is kinda 'overplayed', which instantly makes me think of the 30s version and it fits really good. i kinda liked the fact that it was 3 hours long, makes room for issues the previous version didnt bring up, and alot more humour and fantasy. but at the same time i wouldnt mind if they made that island part a little shorter.
according to imdb this was originally meant to be around 90 mins or so, but jackson payed from his own pockets to extend it. and i noticed there was some scenes missing from the trailer, so i guess when this gets released on dvd it will be even longer.
anyways, i thought this was a great movie! highly recommended for fans of the genre.
its sort of the new lord of the rings in that instead of close up on frodos face looking shocked and amazed for most of the movie we get naomi's. sayin though, it is what it is and in the end i paid to see a movie bout a giant ape and thats what i got.

If anybody wants to fall asleep within minutes, start reading The Silmarillion.
