Is it worth getting an unlocked phone so you can use the shit in europe and US (via T-mobile, sim cards)?
If you can, fuck it why not? If not, there are supposedly hacksites online where they explain how to unlock some of the features.

I only use Verizon so I can't very well recommend anything but that. On the Treo 650 I believe Verizon locks some of the Bluetooth features and I think they might also have the feature locked where you can use the phone as a modem for your laptop...but like I said above, there are ways to unlock that stuff on your own.

Depends, 600, 650, 670? People who upgrade are always flipping their old ones, you can get a good used one on craigslist or ebay probably.
