Ok, taken a few months ago, expanded by at least a crate...

How much is this gonna run me? Can I get book rate? Shipper recommendations?

Help a brother out, I'm 6 months away from moving back to the states, and worried I gotta start saving now. But maybe I'm just paranoid...One friend, non DJ, estimated $300 (which is not bad)?

Peace...

hook up with an air freight company - sending it via regular post wouldn't make sense.

  • What about sea? Is that safe? I've heard it can be rough, and get a bit wet...

    Surface shipping is uber sketchy.

  • I would avoid surface at all costs...I've definitely gotten waterlogged records before.

Passing through an airport once( Gatwick I think), I saw a huge heavy wooden crate being dropped by a crane into a bulk cargo bay filled with smaller cardboard packages. I naerly cried.

    "oh the humanity!" etc.

That's what I've heard... But anyone got a ballpark estimate on shipping by air? We talking a few hundred? A thousand?

Air would be expensive. a freight company might be cheaper, but get a reliable one. My buddy who moved from the states back to Japan got a cheapie freight co. & they "lost" half his shit, including all his records.

  • Much cheaper to send them to Setagaya-Ku, dude! I pay top yen.

A few years back I shipped home two boxes. Must have been surface because they took a month. No damage or wetness, but that shit cost me about 40 a box, if I recall. Wrap them in a garbage bag (inside the box) if you send surface.

I ship by courier, cuz records get warped by sea mail. It usually ends up being about $3 a record landed after tax...

$300 is way under estimate. I would say closer to $1000

    Aw well... so it goes.

Thanks for the estimate... I gotta start saving.

Recommendation on a good reliable courier from Japan?

P.S. You got an extra copy of that Kei-Bin Testsu-Dou Bushi 45? I still can't find that shit.

i shipped maybe 3/4 that home via japan post by sea. i bought their cardboard boxes for it and packed them to the weight limit. there were 6 boxes, each was about 8100 yen. they all came 6 weeks later, perfect shape.

  • Yeah, that sounds like what my situation was too.
