When people talk of Marvin's last couple of years on earth, there are two things - and no more - that are considered aesthetic highpoints, "Sexual Healing" and "The Star-Spangled Banner." I was looking at another e-group where everybody basically i…

The mid eighties best-ofs on Demon scholed me big time on soul music. I also remember a "modern soul" 12" by General Johnson 12" with Paul Weller. There was another edition (not the one pictured above, which features a remix by Ian Levine in…

a bit of The Style Council. I celebrate the entire catalog. Their 2nd album (Our Favourite Shop) is an 80's pop-soul classic. Recently heard Colin Blunstone's "Caroline Goodbye" for the first time. Really fantastic stuff!

Where is the :OH REALLY: graemlin when you need it?

big booty, live mpc drumming, pouring water on another girl's tetas. I bet some strutters just fell out of their chairs. "oh man, that ass.....and she's quietly shitting on hip hop too" Hot damn...I've gotta new appreciation for E. Badu.

I think some of the tracks on one of those Marvin Gaye collections released in the mid 80's by Motown ("Motown Remembers Marvin Gaye" or "A Musical Testament"?) had their original Funk Brothers backings replaced/"enhanced" by midi instruments.

An old favorite of mine. I believe Gene Page (of Barry White fame) did the string arrangements on the album that song comes from.

Other than Faze-o and Helena Ferguson what are the other OP related material should I be looking out for ? I've always enjoyed the 3 albums by OP-offshoot group Shadow, released during the late 70's-early 80's on Elektra.

I know, Jackie Wilson said I'm in heaven when you smile but when you've been there in 1982 you can't front on Too-Rye-Ay. As far as Dexys is concerned, it's ALL about Don't Stand Me Down.

The inspiration... For the video/graphics people here: does anyone know how these logos were made back in the day, pre-After Effects/Maya etc..?

That video was mindblowin'! Thanks for posting it.

I'm no NIN fan, but damn... They sold out of the 2500 limited edition deluxe package (at $300.00 USD each). That's fairly decent money for an entirely independently produced and released instrumental album.

Here ya go: http://www.zshare.net/audio/827701126c423e/ I'm waiting for my sample spotters to blow my spot..... Excellent track, Freq! ...probably my favorite off the new Snoop next to Eruption and the Hollywood track.

Major label soul and funk albums released between the years 1980 - 1984.

Listening to this after just receiving my copy in the mail. THIS IS THE HOT HOT STUFF! Fantastic job, Numero folks!

After having my radio station beg for months to get a copy of Guitar Soli (which had a local Edmonton artist on it), we finally got one in the mail. It was packaged with a promo copy of "Don't Stop: Recording Tap[/b]." It never came with a booklet …

Jack of Speed, West of Hollywood, and Almost Gothic are the tracks I go back to the most on this album. It's a good set, but probably my least favorite in the SD catalog...kinda reminds me of Fagan's Kamakiriad LP sonically; maybe a bit TOO clean a…

Co-sign on the Novation. Their K-Station has a great interface and boasts nice smooth analog-like sound. Can be a little plastic-y feeling, but most synths in this price range have the same problem. The Nord Micro-Modular is tons of fun, but you …

This could be referring to the last song that totally ripped your face off, experience, social anecdote, zany internet viral thing, experience, or actual time you truly shit blood. Sharing is caring. 3 weeks ago...food poisoning-related.
