I don't have any experience with these folks, but I plan on using them in the near future: www.mixonic.com Prices seem pretty reasonable to me.

TSC Appreciation! Wanted - Moder Moves

To each their own, but the Style Council were vastly underrated, IMO. Def. check out TSC if you enjoy the smoother, more soul-based direction the Jam were going in towards their later albums.
-
Jamie Lidell's "Jim" album is an enjoyable collection of new retro soul. Probably my favorite album from 2008.
-
Hell Yeah! Tried to catch one of his shows at the SF Laugh Factory earlier this year, but they were all sold out.
-
Paul Weller, at least back in his Jam/Style Council days. Totally agree, especially The Style Council. Those 12s often contain some deeply cool jazzy instro's - Mick's Up, Mick's Company etcetera etcetera etcetera Hell yeah. My instro faves are "…

Prince, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd had some good ones early on, and I'm sure I'll unconsciously pick someone else with P in their name. Paul Weller, at least back in his Jam/Style Council days.

Pretty cool new song. I particularly enjoy the band's brass arrangements, and the synth solo at the end of the track is a nice touch. Off the S/T debut, I return to "Donchusee" and "Mr. Sexy Boy" the most.
-
The more time you spend with them the more you get in return. From what I've observed in my own family and in the families of my friends, this is very true.

You have articulated my thoughts better than I ever could. My wife and I are pretty much in the same boat as you - down to the letter - but we're just a little older than you. However, the thought of possibly regretting NOT having kids has been cau…

Just dl'd it yesterday and am currently jammin' it on the MP3 player. Really well-produced, polished stuff that works from both a dance music and smooth jazz standpoint (could easily imagine some of the quiet storm stations here playing some of the…

I never heard "The Second Arrangement" tune that supposedly was erased by an engineer. Is it good? Royal Scam is my fave SD album. So so complete; the songs seem thematically linked, in my mind at least. The Second Arrangement is very good. I h…

I have not used them yet, but plan to in the near future due to their nice prices: www.mixonic.com If you are worried about legal issues, you can opt to have 200 blank - but with your artwork on the label - CD-Rs made, and burn the content yoursel…

Great work! I esp. dig the last one with the chef.

Been on a Con Funk Shun kick lately.

Tricia Regan is kinda smokin

This 12" just arrived today, It's my JAM! Shadow-Born To Hustle 99% of the LP this song comes from ("Shadows In the Street") is made up of classic boogie and early 80's funk. Highly recommended.
-
I enjoy some of the early-80's Malaco stuff, which is a bit less blues-based. Sho-Nuff has a couple of great LPs on the label, though I'm able to find pics of any. This LP by Power is also pretty great:

"This is from the interent"

I'm just trying to figure out what would be the example of a pop song with "high beat variance." "A Day In The Life" I suppose Day In The Life was a pop song, but not a pop/hit single.
-
"with all these beat changes and stuff"
-
P*trick - hey I'll gladly accept Nicolette Larson's 12" as yacht/disco crossover (tepid disco as it is) but we both agree that many 80s new wave bands deliberately employed disco elements in their music. It's not an argument to me as to which is dis…

I always dug the single version of Duran Duran's "My Own Way" for its disco-like qualities.

And what were they wearing tuxes for? IT JUST MAKES NO SENSE! "Oh, hey Mark." I believe Denny mentioned that the wedding photos were going to turn out well, thus explaining the reason for the tuxes. "Hi doggie!" That football scene in which th…
