In the end, hip-hop rewards the innovators rather than originators. It's not what you start: it's what you do with it. I don't know if I would say that it "consistently" rewards either. I think some people reap the benefits and others do not and …

much respect to Jaz O! I've always been a big fan of his since the "music I believe in" days (I didn't hear the HP joint to later on...). I also always felt he got slept on. Stuff he was doing on "To The Soul" and "It Don't Stop" were amazing as a l…

Hey thanx a lot for the info everyone! I'm got some research/searching to do. I appreciate it.

sounds like a banger my man! I'll be on the lookout.

Yeah, Biz sampled it from Spoonie G. I know because I already done told myself to Adding more weight to the possibility that Spoonie Is Back might be the "original".... I need to listen to the Ghostface again to see if they sampled it from Spooni…

ha! sorry, that would be interesting and it's not that odd of a thought. Ghostface is sort of like a combination of the two in some ways...ha!

The way look at it is that technology definitely helped shape Hip Hop; Rappers got more hardcore and opened the range of topics with creation of the drum machine (rather than only doing party tracks with the live backing bands/ex: TLA Rock & Run…

What's that Busy Bee "Making Cash Money" a replay of? James Brown "Funky President" Yeah, I know that is there but is that it is. It's the same thing that Spoonie uses for "Spoonie Is Back" and Ghostface use for "Wicked With Lead". Is it from a…

Mean Machine - Disco Dream (I think that was it - the "Peanut Butter" beat, anyway) i thought this was a replay of "pull up to the bumper"? it's the "pull up to the bumper" larry levan mix I believe. Which I've been wondering is that on 12"? …

I always thought that the Crash Crew stuff was always played and arranged very well; We Want To Rock, Breakin' Bells, and On The Radio. "It's The Joint" is really good too. What's that Busy Bee "Making Cash Money" a replay of?

let's see they are separate "first" by genre. The Soul stuff is just alphabetical. The Hip Hop (which is much larger) is separate chronologically by year with each year alphabetical. Everything else is just in a crate by genre in no particular order

it's actually a pretty good album. If you listen to it you'll hear alot or lyrics that were reused for later WU Songs. There's one verse that ODB does completely over on that remix he did with E 40. Other members quote lyrics from that album alot. i…

to try to get back on topic... I agree, I usually let me promo stack pile up a lil bit cause I don't have a lot of time to listen to stuff. When I finally get to it I find myself giving things "a&r listens" because they don't really hold my atte…

post it up! yeah, I haven't recorded the actual mix yet. I just made this CD to study the songs to figure out how I want to put it all together. I won't record it for a lil while yet but I'll post it up when it's done.

thanx for all the feedback. I'm going to dig up all my EWF vinyl to see what I have I think I have most all the LPs. I will need to get those two live versions mentioned. I'll put up a list of stuff I don't have or my vinyl is beat to hell and if so…

Yeah, I agree Schooly D should get most of the credit for the "gangster rap" phase. Followed by Just Ice, BDP, Ice T, & King T. Strictly on the West Coast you have to credit Toddy Tee who was doing it in '84/'85 with his tape only releases where…

One of my favorites: The Jaz: It's Just That Simple (feat. a young, tongue-twistin' Jay-Z). This is nice but I always thought his best track for Jaz was "Abnormal" I was just playing that the other day and wishing I could get an instrumental...
