Bout to get off work...walk home in the rain, eat, smoke, chill for an hour, walk to my second job in the rain, run sound for the worst band in Memphis, drink on the job, and finally go home again...hopefully not in the rain.

Nice, thanks all. 'Gospel According To Nina Simone'? Never heard of it, and doubt I'll ever find it. Whats the deal on that lp? Sounds like most of her stuff is quality.. 'preciated. It's live and it's as raw as it gets. "Sinnerman" is the …

WENDY RENE AND BROTHER ANECDOTES PLAESE (Monkey & Cadillac-related) OK...when 16 year old Mary aka Wendy made some loot off this track, she did what any 16 year old would do...she blew it. She followed in the footsteps of a Memphis trend made…

Dag, what's that all about? By the way, "What Will Tomorrow Bring" is definitely not to be slept on. The side with "She's Moving Away" is the first version featuring her brother on backing vocals. The track is almost slower sounding. It sold well…

ya gotta go all analog...the ones and zeros fuck everything up.

Damn! RIP...we seem to be losing them daily now. I'll spin many sides tonight at the Hook-Up and I's soul night.

I need to know what those last 2 rocked out funky cuts played by the Memphis crew on Saturday night are. I don't remember the last 2 I played but, towards the end I played these... HERB BERNSTIEN'S NEW CRUSADE - Land Of 1000 Dances RO…

Slightly offtopic, but I can recommend that anyone hire Memphis heavyweights TheHookUp and Shingaling (aka Buck Wilders) for any of their raw funky DJ needs. Their tagteam set this past Saturday at our Soul Weekender in NC was unfuckwithable. Bitche…

This is definitely worth picking up: from Shangri-La records. Stop by Shangri-La and holla at me or the Hook-Up. We'll send you in the right direction. Definitly go to the Stax museum!

Lemme guess, its a 500 dollar 45? Not nearly that much but, good luck finding a clean copy. The flip is way better IMO.

And might I add that you win the avatar and location of the week. " STURDYVILLE[/b] "

I remember when this happened to Allmusic Guide. Shit is dumb.

I've never snapped an LP but 45s is another thing. The 45 problem can be fixed by getting the "cone" shaped adaptors. LPs...maybe take a screwdriver...stick it in the hole...talk dirty to it...and rotate the screwdriver like your churning butter. Sh…

"Get in the Groove" is such a great track... Check out Thomas East & the Fabulous Playboy's version on Toddlin' Town also. Very, very similar.

same dude? "Get in the Groove" is such a great track... Same dude. Finewine is the man when it comes to info on Hannibal.

you can get a real hot sound out a couple cheep SM57s. it's all about mic placement. I did alright just setting up the kit facing a corner and using two overheads in a V from behind. Just experiment with it. Theres some heads in here can prolly gi…

Otis Clay His Hi work is pretty under-rated, too - as good as Syl or O.V.'s work for the label. I gotta give a shout-out to the Fortune crew in Detroit, mainly Nolan Strong and Nathaniel Mayer - dudes would both sang in a falsetto key, but in …

Bunker Hill..."Little Red riding Hood", "The Girl Cant Dance"...shit makes your throat hurt just listening to him... MAJOR COSIGN on this! You can feel this shit in your toes!

How is that Violinaries? 5 Blind Boys Of Alabama LPs on Veejay..."Old Time Religion" None of them being "Funky" but the wax might as well be made of gold. So true. I've played this LP over and over and over and over...man, just thiking about…

How is that Violinaries? You just can't go wrong with the Violinaries. Solid LPs...and yes, a lot of tracks are funky. I would have to say that the "hardest" gospel records IMO are the Dixie Hummingbirds "Christian's Testimonial" on Peacock and t…

I just got done moving yesterday. I used... You can stack them and they hold about 150 LPs. Great for using at the house also. You can pick them up at Wal-Mart for $5-$7 each.
