head to st denis and sherbrooke and walk north (uphill)
check beatnick and the spot just a block down (forget the name). after, walk up st. denis (north) to mont royal st and take a right there and walk down for 2 blocks or so. there are a couple of spots on that street, nothing to write home about but its a nice area. turn around and walk back down mont royale the other way and walk past st denis and keep going for another 4 blocks (but stop midway for a pint at that spot with the ostriche heads- forget the name) or so until you hit st. lawrence and take a left and walk down and you'll find another record store or two.
just before you get to st laurent and pins stop at schwartz's and get the special combo with a cherry cola. ask them to give you medium fat on the smoked meat and you want the spices on your steak.
Man ... I need to get back up there soon. So good.
Do you know the name of that great bagel spot where you can see the bagels being made? That's another must for me on my next visit.
there are a few mtl posters on soulstrut they can probably put you on the latests happenings...but pick up a mirror or an hour to see what's what.
Thanks! That picture is killing me. Damn those things are good. Time for a road trip.
cosign, i blanked on the name. those ones are superior. btw, if you are flying home they freeze up real nice.
Looking at the pictures online, Fairmount is definitely where I went. The process was fun to watch:

glad you found a substitute..partie remise as we say
hope the weather did not fuck up your experience too much
did the routine circuit though, almost bordering on touristy, as opposed to the usual party program (gettin' grown-r); hit up the cobbled area off st denis (st Paul square?), the high end shops of Sherbrooke, the restaurants of st Laurent (I see you schwartz's and divan l'orange), and since we were staying at the hyatt @ place des arts the shops and scum of mid-Ste Catharines. those diorama-like bistro's they've put in at place des arts are also super dope, a little yuppy-ish... but you can't always wear chucks and checks right?
great labor day weekend all in all, pity I couldn't get with any of you MTL heads to break baguette, but I'll be back soon.
i would have done the same myself
break baguette ha!
