Yeah, super virus is the shit I fear most. Especially considering how easily and quick people travel around the globe these days.

right? I was reading recently about those antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections people get in UK hospitals sometimes. apparently there are bacteria that can live in bleach. the overuse of antibiotics is another thing; it's leading to increasingly resistant strains, strains that are evolving faster than our scientists can develop meds to stop them. it's almost like the bugs are getting smarter.

you add the interconnectedness of folks worldwide via airtravel, etc. and, yeah, scary as fusk.

I was dead serious about the "Outbreak" thing. that movie was kinda corny, but the supervirus thing is a very real fear of mine.

I can deal with a flood or my house falling on my face. blunt force trauma via natural disaster is just way less scary to me than some creepy sickness for which there's no cure.

  • my number one would be entombment in a subway car or building that collapsed, with no direct injury but no way of getting out or being found.

my number two would echo the above about being affected by a lethal pandemic outbreak with the addition of being quarantined by troops inside a city as mass chaos erupted.

The problem isn't that scientist can't keep up, it is that they don't have the appropriate funding. Big Pharm is heavily invested in boner pills, but they only spend a small fraction of R&D on fighting bacterial infections. If these things get worse and there is more money to be made, that will flip. Let us hope they don't pick up the pace too late.

Well if I'm gonna be dying of some crazy pandemic, the least they could do is give me some boner pills. Amirite??

Big Pharm is heavily invested in boner pills because people buy them.

And people buy them because they work. Adam Smith is surely smiling down on Big Pharm and touching himself with the Invisible Hand of the Economy as we speak.

Yeah, this scenario sets off my mild claustrophobia. The whole "buried alive" thing is a nightmare.

My greater fear would be when the subway car is above ground and goes off the alignment and crashes. At least underground there are escape doors that the passengers could use if that were to happen.

But in the case of natural disasters, an earthquake tops it for me. It's that unexpected element that gets me. With a hurricane or tsunami or flood, there's at least some form of forewarning. With an earthquake you don't get the news until after the earthquake has just occured.

You do not have to go to a UK hospital to get Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (MRSA).
People get them every day in US hospitals and often die.

But it is not only a hospital problem. Gym locker rooms are a big problem. Pro athletes have died from Community Acquired MRSA.

    Be scared. Be very scared.

Don't leave your house and seal up all your windows with Saran Wrap and Tin Foil.

It would really suck if some flouride from an aluminum factory spilled into our water supply.

Would that cause a tin foil shortage?

Nah, your dude Tom Ridge convinced me years ago that a duct tape hat is the way to go.

    Supernova

At least you'd have some new age music to guide you through the Star Gate tho

Similar to the idea of earthquakes being shitty because they're sudden, I'm going to say: avalanche. I think you're likely to be buried under a heck of a lot of snow in some random location downstread of the 'lanche...so not likely to be found in time.

And it'd be cold as hell as you died.

With a supernova, I think there would be something comforting in knowing that the entire galaxy is going with you.

Typical Socialist....you don't care that things suck as long as they suck equally for everyone.

    b/w

    Yeah, that was a joke.

Good point. The superrich have probably built a transporter to take them out of the galaxy. Now I don't want to die in a supernova any more.

Glee 3D's popularity skyrockets, and the cast becomes revered like The Beatles.
