Record Collecting Blogs...potential latte passe.

What does Teh Strut Think about record collecting blogs where you can download the .rar file for the album? I have found quite a few of them doing research on albums and learning what to look for in the field. Sure, I would LOVE to buy all the cool music that I have found on-line, but I'm no Rockefeller. So, I download and enjoy that way. It doesn't diminish the the pleasure I get from finding that special something tucked away amongst the turds, but that's just me. Is this like Rockin' Re-issues vs O.G. pressings? Thoughts?

Not sure I understand this response.
Dude I just found out about this site called: GOOGLE. Holy shit man, I found so many good things on there. Have you heard about it man? You can like search for anything on there!

I eat too much candy and I start to sweat. The beginnings of diabetes? I dunno.
Maybe hone down what kind of music you are looking for and we can point you in the right direction.
If I download an album I usually use mediafire because it is hassle-free as opposed to waiting for 30-45 seconds for download access.
As far as blogs go, I usually am into jazz and more obscure soundtracks so I go to el reza, inconstant sol, etc...
Don't own an MP3 player. I've found some raers in the field.
Sorry Guys, maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not asking about how to find cool record blogs or anything. I'm wondering what people think about blogs that give the listener access to music that was once ultra rare and hard to find. Now anyone can listen to stuff easily that some people have looked for their whole lives. How does the digger feel about this. It's like, do you sample from cd's or vinyl? Do you buy re-issues or wait until you find an original pressing. Boxers or briefs.
WOW! Peter Peckerhead rears his ugly head and re-enforces the bad rep that Soul Strut gets on-line. Typical. Maybe you should voice an OPINON instead of coming off like a jerk. Probably does all his "digging" on-line with a credit card for his trust fund account.
it's the microwave djs/producers that fucks me up. the ones dropping mixes or beats or whatever off mp3s from blogs. on some little dude shit like "but it's about the music itself, dude." it's like taking your computer generated virtual girlfriend to the prom.
That's a much better mental picture, hopefully it's not diabetes, though. I have a homeboy who sweats profusely, if he eats ketchup.
As for downloading raers in mp3 form, I'm for it. It's about the music more that the format for me. Of course, I would prefer to have the OG's, if possible. And I usually don't cop reissues. I can wait until I find the OG or don't, and enjoy the mp3's in the mean time.
Edit: After reading shitzr I will say also, I don't use them for mixes or sampling purposes, strictly listening.
THANK YOU! This is the kind of discussion I wanted to see.
You know, what is the question you're asking... if it's ok to listen to music online? Or not to spend money on records and just downloading it?
No. Does it bother you that you, in some peoples' opinion, may have wasted time in record stores looking for, and spending lots of money on, that mega raer when you can download it for free from the web? Do you feel that it's "correct" to sample or mix with these "false copies" of vintage and hard to find vinyl? Very few of my friends fusk wit vinyl. Some do, but not on the level of serious collector. Ask your friends when was the last time they bought music in a physical format? Recently in Toronto and the rest of the world there have been quite a few record store closings, on-line music is helping this along, that's fact not fiction.
I think hunting down vinyl and rare music is one of the main reasons Soulstrut exists. (Re-)discovery's are made this way (http://www.soulstrut.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/70929/). Do you think music bloggers you download from are re-posting MP3's they found via Google or that they spent endless hours in obscure spaces (http://www.soulstrut.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/68498/) to unearth the rarest of the rare? And then people come along and download it. Think about what part of this you are participating and why this forum is your place to post and comment on things.
Now go and download that Trinidad Afro-Calypso discovery and enjoy it!
I am an avid collector and worked in an independant used record store in a small Northern Ontario city for 6 years. I have found stuff in that place that made me wonder how it got there and who was it that bought it and brought it home. I appreciate music and history. That's why I wanted to post and comment here. I have read all the digging stories, they are great! I keep coming back to The Strut because I know that there are some really knowledgable and awesome people here. The other main reason is that if I wasn't reading posts on Soulstrut, I'd be watching porn, which is a bigger waste of time.
I dunno what's up with your attitude man, and then you call ME the jerk? I was just trying to give you a tip cause that Google is a good site. Its seriously one of the best sites on the internet you just type words and then it finds shit for you. I think you can even find pornos on there. I mean I haven't ever tried that, but I bet you could.

Cool. A view point from the other side. Thanks Possum Tom!
you can collect records, and that is a beautiful thing to appreciate an accumulation of someone's particular tastes. but in the end, music is music. how much of a crowd cares that the dj is playing vinyl or rocking serato? the flyest girls in the building probbaly dont care at all...its all about can they get people dancing or not.
does it cheapen golden era hiphops legacy that a ton of it was made off jacking ultimate breaks and not ogs of impeach, synthetic substitution or ashleys roachclip? nope.
hiphop kindof kicked in the doors of finding and using music in different formats. why should people who make it all of a sudden get hung up on some keep-it-real technicality? anything goes...just make shit that sounds good.
and if you spent loot on an expensive record, you have something with potential resale value, which the mp3 does not have.
quit hating dawg
Or you can have a harddrive full of raer, and why not. You may miss out on the pleasure of owning the physical object, or impressing other dudes with the size of your collection.. but the idea that you can't get just as much enjoyment from listening to a mp3, song, mix or whatever is just snobbery imo. Shit, I grew up listening to well loved cassette tapes, of recorded radio shows, and they probably sounded like shit compared to some 40 yearold audiophile's sealed or better collection. Can't say I gave a fuck tho.
It does limit you though, because you're only taking & using, what other people are giving out. So you're unlikely to come with something truly original. Unlike the people who put in time and effort to search out exactly that. The things that aren't downloadable from some Russian mp3 site, or haven't already been reissued.
But even that argument sounds a little familiar to me. People used to say similar things about sampling when it first became prevalent. That the new generation were only taking what the old-guard had paid blood, sweat and tears for.
Thanks to Okem and Tripledouble. Obviously they are some thoughtful dudes.
u called it earlier Rey. DO U.
its 2011 and u get what u can. if you dont like the quality of your acquisition, hunt for the upgrade. Simple.
its not a big deal. Tech evolves and we evolve with it. 101 collectro shit.
