Best shop in BCN at the moment is DISCOS JUAND?? (C/Giralt el Pellisser, 2-4, near to Santa Caterina Market in Via Laietana)
Half of the shop is soul-jazz-funk- latin - soundtracks american issues (on LP), a decent selection of rare soul 45's and, obviously, loads of Spanish issues of all kinds of music. The owner Marcos speaks perfect English and he's kind, helpful and knowledgeable, prices are more than reasonable and he's always willing to give a discount for decent buys
I live around the corner, just PM when you're here and i can give you more info about other local spots, food and so on :-)
Best!

nice to have someone from BCN around. I use to come at least once in a year to visit my family so I have been looking for records since 1995. In the beginning I found mad stuff in all the shops in Carrer Tallers and Riera Baixa especially at Discos Edison but the places seemed to have dried out throughout the last years. I'll try the one you mentioned when I'm there this summer. In all the years I never managed to find a decent fleamarket. Is there something worth visiting?
Yep, those were the days...
There's the big second hand market (Encants), but sellers there are professionals and they tend to only wanting to sell at a reasonable price to people that they know since many years and that are dealers as well, works more like an antiques market...even if the stuff is laying on the floor!
There are some second hand shops and stuff, they're worth for people like me as i buy all kinds of stuff (pop, rock, punk, you name it...) but not really so great if looking exclusively for black music. And then, there are small record fairs in towns near Barcelona almost every weekend, but the same logic applies
Appart from Discos Juand??, i'd say is worth it going around Tallers street (also Sitges street, nearby, as Discos Daily has some soul, reggae and funk 45) boxes and also Discos Paradiso (C/Ferlandina), good spot for disco, italo and electronic stuff on 12"
Just PM as well whenever you're in BCN, ok? My email is black_whip@hotmail.com
Best!

Have good private contacts for italo and electronic stuff as well here...OK, just drop me some lines when you're here!
I visited your wonderful city back in 2004.
Would love to return.
The best stuff I bought was Spanish rock. Andulacia Rock? I forget what they called it. Sadly the Catalan rock stuff I found was not as good.
I met a real nice seller at a market in Cathedral Square. He had great stuff. I have his card somewhere.
Everything was priced, but worth the prices.
Also the one store that also had porn videos had good stuff.
un abrazo

Mark here from London, see you in October for 'Movin On', the Brazilian Soul Special.
I just got back from Barcelona attending the Sonar fest!
Had a total blast - one of the highlights was the Aphex Twin set at Sonar by night.
I could have used these record store tips a few weeks ago. I found a street near Macba - carrer de la reira baixa? which had two used record stores almost next to each other - you know the shops?. One had quite a few spanish pressings of soul and funk records, all sealed. the other mostly pop records. Didnt find much - Barcelona was great tho. Will be returning soon I hope
Must be WahWah Records and Discos Edison.
that's it. I found a spanish sountrack comp with a nice version of three days of the condor and the man from hong kong on it - on some spanish geoff love orchestra ish. 1???
