The one time I saw him live (three years ago), he was real good and surprisingly funny. I remember hearing a recent album of his and thinking it was on the lukewarm side, but a greatest-hits compilation (of his 60s/70s solo material) knocked me out, particularly this tune here:
I was fortunate enough to spend the better part of a day with him when he played at the shop. It was great fun watching him going around the bins and pulling records and talking shit....*pulls a Wanda Jackson LP and says "ol girl found Jesus and a hundred pounds"....finds a copy of Dead Kennedys "Too Drunk to Fuck"...giggles like a 10 year old boy. He had some great stories...one of the greats...RIP
