iPhone Apps -- Jumpoffs?

Made the pilgrimage to iPhone from Bberry -- so far so good. Email pails in comparison, but I knew what I was getting into. Still getting used to navigating and all that, but the capabilities this thing has are ridiculous. Loving it.

BUT - wondering what apps ya'll REALLY be fucking with. Angry Birds is for the birds, Cut The Rope I've already gotten three stars on every level. I'm liking Harbor Master in small doses. Any other games I should be fucking with?

Functionality wise --- any that really stand out other than instagram, hipstamatic, etc?

  • As for games ...

Trainyard is a very clever puzzler. There's a free version (which actually has unique puzzles not present in the paid version).

If you like Street Fighter, the iPhone version of SF4 is surprisingly good. I'm not a big fan of action games on the iPhone in general because the controls are usually horrible. But they actually did a good job with Street Fighter.

Infinity Blade is a sword slasher with brilliant controls. This may mean nothing to you if you don't dork out on games now and again, but it's the first iPhone game built on the Unreal engine (used for games like Bioshock, Gears of War, Mass Effect, etc). So it looks fantastic and they kept the controls very simple. Great game.

And if you can picture yourself staring at your phone for long periods of time, Myst works very well. As do some of the 8-bit RPG remakes: Final Fantasy 1 & 2, Phantasy Star 2, Shining Force. Monkey Island 1 & 2 also work very well on a touch screen.

ya got ceefrenzy to dork out to.

Trainyard's dope -- sort of confusing as the first 20 levels or so are so easy that I thought I was doing something wrong. I'm more of a puzzle game type -- not into the RPG's, etc. Anything in the Cut The Rope vein is where I'm at.

    I second that! Instant purchase.

And I'm sure most folks are aware of this one, but I just downloaded the djay app the other day. I don't plan to actually use this for a party or record a mix on it or anything, but it's pretty damned fun to mess around with. It is hilarious that they market this as a tool for actual DJing, but it's well worth the 99 cents as an entertaining diversion:

  • Wish I could recommend the Turntable.fm app, but it blows. Even with the new update.

Soundtracking is fun for sharing music.
    Photobucket works well.
Photosynth is awesome for panoramic pics.

  • NBA Jam. It's 4 bucks, but it's fantastic, and you can multiplayer it. Great game.

I'm into this Rando app (iphone/android).
It's a picture sharing app that is completely anonymous, except location (if you offer that info up).
You take a picture, you get a picture. I've sent/received over 100 and haven't gotten any suspicious 'packages'
No social media integration at all, too, which is nice.

Got a pic from Cape Verde, one from deeeep continental Russia, etc.
50% seem to come from S.Korea and California, but i guess it's still new.
