and how come Richard "3070" Davis, juan's partner in cybotron never gets a look in? Dave Tompkins talks a lot about dude in How To Wreck A Nice Beach, seems like a very important character that has been criminally overlooked.

I'd heard that he'd become something of a recluse, but it seems he's still out there...

I enjoyed this docu very much. But I`m wondering where has the soul gone in modern techno, which was still to be found in the classic stuff. Most - if not all - modern techno bores me to death.

great tracks.
I don`t want to split hairs. But in my book this is all deep house.
I picked this up when it came out. Its a decent docco although i felt it could have gone a little deeper. I mean every one knows about Craig, Saunderson, May and Aktins. I realise its hard to tell the story without them but i would have loved to hear more about people like Anthony Shake Shakir and Kenny larkin ect.
There's not much detroit stuff that moves me these days as much as all that old UR,planet E, stuff, Theo Parrish and Moodymann being obvious exceptions.

I've always associated Detroit with techno and deep house, so it was interesting when dude in the studio (missed who it was) described the difference between house & techno as techno goes boom-boom-boom, while house is more boom-tssk-boom-tssk-boom-tssk.

Fascinating doc, even if the talking heads do get a little much a times.

As for techno, i quite enjoy Sandwell District`s sound aesthetic at the moment, allthough it surely isnt as melodic as the early detroit stuff.
