Nicholas Payton, the jazz trumpeter, was talking last summer about an R&B-ish album he was going to release called Bitches, taking inspiration from Bitches Brew. apparently the album got canned, but the tracks leaked in late November. they were taken down within days.
they're back up now, and i'd highly recommend everyone to go grab em quickly---who knows how long they'll be up. the album KILLS. kind of has an early-80s GRP/Arista kind of vibe--Tom Browne, Bernard Wright, Don Blackman etc.

One of his latest lps...
is really a nice listen as well.
About the record:
Although Grammy-winner Nicholas Payton is best known for playing the trumpet, this mixtape is dominated by his voice, and features him playing all instruments - keyboard, synthesizer, drums, bass, drum machine, flugelhorn, percussion, B-3 organ - and trumpet. The unreleased "mixtape" also features guest vocalists Esperanza Spalding, N???dambi, Saunders Sermons, Cassandra Wilson and Chinah Blac. The track steers away from jazz and is instead rooted in a fusion of soul, funk and R&B. Payton recently told the Aspen Times that he had Bitches Brew in mind while making his mixtape Bitches, ???This is such a departure for me. Like Bitches Brew was for Miles. It???s a similar sharp turn in my musical career.???
