Finding "Gears" is always rewarding. I've only come across it in the field a few times in 10+ years, but each time is just like the first.

Not wax -- but been looking for something like this for the same amount of time, 10+ years. Genuine promo only shirt, not some weird 70s feminine fitting joint.

The Sandpebbles of Barbados - Calypso Carnival Vol 1
    Pebblegroove (PG 1011, Barbados, 1974)

Mostly Soca / Disco tracks on this one. I have another one of theirs that has a nice mid tempo break that sounds like something PUTS would sample.

  • after what seemed like a year of looking, finally got this in the mail today:

and didnt even know it existed til crabmongerfunk put me up on it

happy for you that you finally tracked that down. it took me about a year to find mine as well.

it's sort of strange that the book doesn't contain the song "headless heroes" but i guess that track caused him and atlantic a ton of grief so maybe that's why it was bypassed.

so if anyone has done a transcription on that tune, please to send. thanks.

incidentally, i am a big fan of his "natural juices" album, is anyone else into that one?

  • yeah crab, i didnt recognize a lot of the songs on there...many not being from Outlaw or Headless.
    feeling some of the poetry:
    PERFECTION
    Perfection is
    A difficult thing
    to be
    Yet we all strive
    Endlessly
    for a norm that demands
    perfection
    And yet scorns it
    Twill be a simple day
    When we discover
    Nature as perfection
    for perfection is
    It is not attained

Outlaw & Headless Heroes are both great...talk about something funky with a message.

    that poem is lovely, too

picked up "The Other Half" on the label 7/2...i think (or the album is 7/2)

some good covers on there and I would recommend, "As Tears Go By" as well as "Aspens Of The Night"

I was just in there on Friday - First time I'd been in. That's a dope spot! Lots of good stuff. I will definitely return.
I still have a $12 store credit burning a hole in my wallet!

  • Thanks, Musica.

I had hoped it would be a WIRL release that I could add to the discography but I actually think the majority of the records they put out was on their own label.

Lol, that movie is so ridiculously over the top. They played it on the flight while I was in Delhi. Unfortunately the album does not have the wonderful title music.
