Insane, i saw 5 people fall off their bikes this morning while dropping the kids off at school. one poor kid slid along and fell in the harbour.

these last few days have been insane, an icy mist hangs over the city:

    This kids are loving it

Which was worse, the fact you were in a snowstorm, or the fact you were in Leiden?

Crossing the big red bridge, looking down on the harbour. they are wooden poles where boats 'park-up' while waiting for their turn to pass under. the combined wind, snow and ice froze them in time.

I do realise there is a much more fitting nautical term for 'wooden poles boats park up on' but im a landlubber.

'Parking up' with boats is called mooring, which rather appropriately comes from the Dutch verb meren.
Not sure what the wooden things are called tho, bollards or poles??. Great photos either way.

I thought mooring was longterm, yiou are only useing the poles temporarily, so i didnt think 'moor' was the word.

    then again, who cares.

i just cycled to pick the oldest up from school and dinked my leg in an attempt to stay upright whilst gliding across the black ice. About as gracefull as a walrus in tapshoes, but at least i stayed upright.

fucking great bruise on my leg though.

10 inches of snow here yesterday.
good thing we know how to deal with it.

  • -8 with a windchill of -14 in toronto. enough to get the canada goose trench out of the attic.

we haven't caught our december snowshit yet, but that doesn't mean it's not coming. hopefully our new mayor won't embarass us by calling in the military again when things get hairy.
