Can anyone recommend any South American early-mid 70s funk/rock mixes or albums?

I guess the sort of thing i'm thinking is Grupo Oz style stuff? I know absolutely nothing about it...

Thanks in advance

Any specific country or just from, say, Panama to Brazil and up again?

  • I don't know enough to have an educated preference to be honest. I'd be curious about some Mexican stuff though.

you should be curious about brazilian acts.
DJ Nuts Embalo Jovem, brasilian psych selection (07.18.07) (don't know if it's still available @ dublab)
Madlib Speto da rua & medicine show #2 flight to brazil

you should try albums by usual suspects Flora Purim, Banda Black Rio, Marcos Valle, Azymuth, Arthur Verocai, Deodato, etc....
lesser known Anna Mazzotti, Antonio Adolfo, Quarteto em Cy

it gets psychy 2 tracks in

  • Cheers guys - just checked a couple of Banda Black Rio tunes and that seems like the sort of stuff i'm after. I've got the self titled Verocai album which i think is awesome too, and some Deodato stuff.

Brits failing geography again. Tsk Tsk, Mexico is in the same continent as Canada and the US, hence NAFTA.

Anyway! The point being, you will find way more stuff that sounds like this from North America, specifically, the United States, meaning Tejano/Chicano Funk. Check this LP that has just been re-issued: http://lightintheattic.net/releases/504-fantasia-del-barrio.

Haha as soon as I wrote Mexico i new i was in danger of getting called out, as is the way on forums! I even checked to make sure Panama and Mexico were both Central America...Is Panama classed as North or South?

    Thanks for the link!

Vol 2 will be done in a couple of weeks, too!

  • Thanks for the links everyone, there's loads for me to go at there!

I checked the Panama mix last week, it seemed a bit more laid back than what i'm after...
