What are your favorites. Best bass, snare, sequencer, etc. My first was the Akai XR10 I picked it up in '91, used for $150. I wish I still had it. The beats were clunky at the time, but it taught me to program, the hard way. One day my hommie brought over his TR808 connected to an Ensoniq or E-mu keyboard. I don't remember which. That shit was bumpin. We sampled all kinds of crazy shit with the 808 pumpin' out the bass. The Roland style step writing is cool. I always liked that. When I got my 1200s i faded away from the drum machine. Now I have a groovebox. I use it as a sequencer, but the drums never sounded right to me, maybe because they're samples and you can't tune them the same way you can with the TR808. Times have changed with software drum machines and samplers making pretty much any emulation possible, but I miss those beatboxes.

got 'em in '89 & '90 respecitvely.
This was my first drum machine. Roland is my shit when it comes to drum machines. I've had other models from Yamaha, Alesis and so on, but I always return to the Roland sound.
i still use the casio all the time... the built in sounds are chunky to hell (house claps for days) and the sampler is awesome for really pharty kicks.
but these days it's all about:
since i use my comp only to record, my knowledge of programs is a bit lacking. is this a program filled with sounds, or is this your personal .wav collection?
NEVER DIE...
samples from those machines.. all the individual hits.

DAMN!!!!! That's clean.
I'm pretty sure it's the
with a truckload of reverb for that extra boom.
i had both of these back in the day. i got the 505 at a music store and then "upgraded" to the 707 when i found it for $5 at a yard sale. both fun machines that i wish i still had.
i have one of those collections of vintage drum machine sounds too...you can get CDRs of them on ebay for $10.
The DMX snare kills me every time. Oh so chunky.
nowadays i'm using mainly the mpc, and about to drop some money on a new computer, and planning on replacing the mpc with

I've been shopping for one of these for eons. I can't find one anywhere.

ALTHOUGH I WISH BATTERY WILL SOON HAVE NOTE OFF AND TIMESTRETCHING ABILITY
I like it so much I am retiring my Oxygen 8.
Down side is that the construction of knobs and faders are rather filmsy. So be careful with them knobs and faders, and the Enigma editor (to edit the MIDI parameters of the controller) is very difficult to use.
