I am a sucker for classic revenge or retribution plots in entertainment (The Count of Monte Cristo, The Birds etc) and I know the strut brain trust has a lot of songs they could recommend that isn't just limited to country music. (yeah, eye for an eye makes the world go blind, but you can deny that there is something satisfying/amusing about just desserts)two off the top off my head that i love or am amused by:

not the songs where marvin takes the blame for his own failings (including the self--destructive desire to get revenge)or the ones where he talks about falling love again with jan and finding a new persepctive.
"is that enough" and "anna's song's" are the only ones that qualify as revenge songs.
btw, you;'re not that dude who used to be arkx are you?
Ah I see what you're saying. Agreed. I guess I was referring more to the overall motivation behind making here my dear. I have to admit while I own a copy, I'm not that well versed in what each of the songs are about. Will have another listen tonight!
And no, I've only ever been Arks. Who is Arkx?
James Brown - The Payback
&
Blondie - One Way Or Another
Ruby Andrews - Casanova (You're Playing Days are Over)
The metal will live on
Punk rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were smited to the ground
New wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal
Hahahahaha they failed as they were thrown to the ground
(Screaming) Aiieee Aiieee
(Harmonizing)
No one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know
New wave tried to destroy the metal
But the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal
But techno was proven wrong
Yeah!
Metal!
It comes from hell
some moron with a similar sounding name.
try to listen to "here, my dear" front to back sometime in one sitting so you can appreciate the arc of the narrative.
Arkx was the young man who had somewhat controversial arguments that the SS brains trust could neither handle nor defeat, and the rage, the very rage and ire that was so spawned was ethereal in its beauty, imperious in its majesty, primal in its neanderthal brutality.
The dude broadly argued against the Muslim scientific and moral contribution to the world IIRC, and with teh intelligentsia here amassed frothing with bile, proceeded to render them all hilariously impotent with the revelation of his own purported muslim heritage.
The lad then retired from hereabouts, no doubt to cause further mayhem and implosions on other boards across hyperspace like some superhero-w/-bad-rep, forever doomed to be righteous but villified.
Honestly, it was a f*cking hoot.
On the other hand he went and spoiled it by posting some thread about some crappy grime sub-genre. Or something.
I dont get how Here My Dear or any of the individual tracks are Revenge related.
He told the judge the profits of his next Motown album will go to Anna, instead of paying the full alimony.
The OG concept was gonna be some regular shit.
He then switched the subject matter to discussing their history.
She was pissed, but I dont see his motive being vengeful.
He didnt put it out behind her back. He let her hear it before it dropped.
He talks about loving her throughout the album.
I just dont see it as a "F*ck you bitch" album.
I met a little girl, sure was fine
Pretty little thing just about blew my mind
She took me home and ahh made love to me
I knew right then and there this is where I wanted to be
Most of my life I had been all, all alone
And you're so sweet to me, don't think i'll ever roam
And then one day as time will pass
I had this feeling that our love would last
Nothing could go wrong and it seemed everything I did
Seemed to please you, all the heartaches you hid
Then one night after we made it, and we were through
That's when I decided I wanted to marry you
Do you take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife
To love, hold and cherish for the rest of your life?
I do, yes I do, I do darlin'
'Cause I love you
1964
Once you really loved me
Once I really loved you
1976
Then time would change you
As time would really change me
We thought our love would stand the test of time
And as I sing this song right now I wonder today, today
If you're a friend of mine
Cry cry cyr-I have done some crying
Woman, you have caused my tears to flow
Cry cry cry-d you cry about me?
Dou you think about the kind of love we had?
Hal le hallelejah
Hal le lu i'm free
Hal le hallelejah
Hal le lu i'm free
[crying and fade] [/b]
Also, Millie Pulled A Pistol on Santa.
no doubt
i also think it would be one-dimensional to call the whole album revenge themed but "anna's song" for sure takes the cake on that. he taunts her in the first line that he is making love to someone else all night long while she lies alone on the silk sheets he financed and taking decadent baths in milk to preserve her appearance. when he calls her "stubborn" and "old" that is some vengeful shit right there.
in the david ritz biography it talks about how anna went into the studio to listen to the album while marvin holed himself upstairs anxiously awaiting her reaction.
This is Anna's song
Im making love all night long,
Take a bath in milk, and lay on your satin sheets
Laughing smiling,(oh oh)
Lay a while in,(oh oh)
Chocolate mint,candy sweets
(living across the way)cross the way
(living across the way, living across the way)
This is Annas song
(this is Anna's song, this is Anna's song)
Keep on singing (loving my song)
All night long (loving my song)
Oooh work so hard, see me making dollars
(never worked so hard)
I know i should for my own good, whats it her smile,
Makes you so stubborn and oh
Didnt you notice the snow, starting to fall
Come let us sit a while, just listen
To the children laughing and running wild
Anna Anna Anna
Yeah this is Anna's song hey baby hey baby
Loving you all night long
Let it happen again and again and again baby Anna yeah,
Shes a child of the sun, lovingest one of all
Mmm and this is Anna's song yeah
Keep on loving me baby loving me cross the hall,
She can't do no wrong 'cos this is Anna's song
Laugh and chatter to you, kiss me Anna dear
Ooohhhh baby
[Instrumental]
Hey Annas heres your song yeah
The one that i promise baby, promise you all along
I knew all the time that id find the rhyme
Never have a fear, here it is my dear
This is about Jan???
Only because u brought up "another woman". I thought u thought Marvin was talmbout fuskin' Jan and was rubbin it Anna's face.
I looked at the liner notes and its says - "stubborn and OHHhhh" - I thought it was "Old" all these years as well.
Shit - if u wanna keep it real - Lets Get It On was an album all about Jan while Marvin was still "married" to Anna. That wasnt revenge but imagine your partner goin Top 10 singing about f*ckin someone else.
I can see Marvin having "F*ck you" thoughts when doin this album, but I feel he went deeper than just callin her out. He put down the shit down on the table about both sides of the relationship. It seems way more nuanced than "Ill get that bitch" type of concept album IMO.
Falling In Love Again might be the reference to Jan as the light of hope during he and Anna's turmoil. "I found somebody who loves me..." " She's pretty outside and in...".
"is that enough?" on the other hand..."you know i know you, and i know that you just love that expensive stuff".
