i really think Al Johnson-Back for More is the best modern soul lp i have ever heard. absolutely gorgeous album
YES!
and while some may think a 1974 release date is a bit early for a Modern Soul LP, Lou Courtney's "I'm In Need Of Love" is, IMO, a Modern Soul (non-boogie) classic.
I've also been diggin' Major Harris' "How Do You Take Your Love" LP a lot lately.
Both of these were produced by Leon Pendarvis, if I'm not mistaken.

I was having this debate with the_mack a little while ago. He claims it can't be modern soul cause it came too early.
In the end I think we decided to call it proto-moder soul.
