i was lucky enough to get an advance on this a lil while back... been marinating. my biggest bone to pick is the mic'ing of the drum kit. not feeling it.

Been listening to this since its release this past Tuesday. Great album...the best tracks here are immediately catchy and stand up to his best work, IMO. Current faves are "Help Somebody," "Pretty Wings," and the end instrumental "Pheonix Rise" (slap bass!). Wasn't too into "Cold" at first, but watching the DVD documentary in the deluxe edition, which is also available on Youtube I believe, gave me a new appreciation for the song. I also enjoy the stripped-down yet intricate, organic-sounding production on this one.

That's one of my favorite features of the new album. I feel that "Bad Habit" and "Pretty Wings" would be better without the (seemingly synthesized/sampled) handclaps though.

really ?
as a former drummer, drums are the focus.
with the synths and all, it doesnt gel for me.
