we seriously sold at least 100 copies of the reissue of Music to Driveby on CD within the 2 years I worked at a record store in Chicago. Easily our top seller at that store, next to Lauryn Hill's solo album. Couldnt keep either one of em in stock for more than 3 or 4 days.
Mc Eiht decided to take on the production duties for We Come Strapped. And even thought there are some killer momments on that album, the keyboard-heavy production(sign of the times) was kinda awkward IMO compared to what DJ Unknown was doin w/ the samples on Music To Driveby. The beats were more "soulful"IMO along w/ a wider variety of loops/samples.
Dudes used Schoolhouse Rock,Walk On By(before and better than Biggie's Warning-IMO),Truck Turner, and Ronnie Jordan(smooth jazz w/ gangster shit - brilliant).
Just a way more cinematic backround for what Eiht needed.
Plus Strapped always left a bad taste in my mouf because of Eiht being billed in front of CMW. I dont know if that was a contract move or some behind the scene squabble, but that was a suspect look IMO.
Eihter way I enjoy both albums but I return to M2D on the regular.
