Lack of background helps, they recommend a gif or png with a transparent background which helps their algorithms. Also, when you load it in, you can tweak the sliders to adjust where the colors start and stop???I recommend at least playing with the levels to see how the results change. It can make a huge difference in the clarity of the final image.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Sully pic you posted in the Hudson River Crash thread. That pic is pretty washed out with a busy background. I did a quick background cutout and tweaked the levels a bit. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with the results.
