  • I like the Groove On Down comps (Vols 1 & 2) a good bit. Also Disco Spectrum has some good stuff as does The American Boogie Down. And if you like the kings of... ish why not pick up their Kings of Disco cd?

oh, and there are also a few Larry Levan themed comps that have a lot of essentials

  • depends what you want...basics or a bit deeper.

if you like the kings of series cop kings of disco, the other releases of off track as far as what i put on them...are just about all disco related, or dance related.

check sean p and joey negro's soul of disco series.
also al kent has some cds floating about with some more deeper cuts, disco demands is the series.

the above give you stuff that you dont see as frequently, alot of comps cover the same old bases.

  • Compiled by Dimitri From Paris.

Co sign on the disco spectrum joints. And that dimitri......man I tried to get into it but couldn't.

Cosignature on the Dimitri. Got it the year it came out and pull it out at least once a year.

Love that tune "Flight to Jamaica," and a whole gang of others on that comp.

  • The Charanga is a fav of mine I had for a while, but the Eastside joint is a bit Loveboat.

I think they're hard to find now, but the Disco Juices are fantastic!

  • They pop up in used bins often (maybe cause of Microwave, or because the ones I've seen are joints most people own the actual copy of by now)

Any good digital stores that have good comps? How is Juno and Amazon?

  • The groove on down comps are excellent value as are the peter brown/patrick adams. The first couple of dimitri from paris were good. Just look on discogs under disco in the market place and search from there.

  • Disco Gold - Scepter '75 (really soulful early stuff, all Tom Moulton mixes)

The Disco Strut series has some nice stuff.

  • cosign the Disco Strut...

but also don't forget the ol' Super Disco Brakes on Winley
    for the essentials...

On the old disco comp tip, this twofer is worth picking up to get some nice Shep Pettibone edits/mixes of Prelude classics:

Don't Stop Tap records is my pick. Also Destination Boogie has some nice cuts on it. I generally use the comps as jump offs to find tracks i like.

I know I'm not the only one who's heard Cardova's "Disco to Get Drunk By" mixes. They totally rule.

  • I like the two volumes of this -

YES! I had the last one (Martini glass on the front). I found out of that track "much to much" via that mix.

and for that dimitri and muro comp. Man, I think I DL'd one of the sides and just wasn't feeling it. I gotta give it another try since folks say it is ZEE BOMB

the heat on dims comp does not come cheap in og form.

    crashers 12" $300 +
    brainstorm 12 " $200 +
    urb/ barely breaking even $100+

co sign on the counter point comps...the promo 12" of ahzz was nice as well

Glad I found mine for a couple dollars but it's worth $100. This song is a monster, super-classic.
