    Sentence time aside......how can they not release their names and photos so people can be aware of them when they get out??b, 21b, 21This policy of protection seems bizarre.

    Yeah, this is a real WTF case. Seriously messed up. Anyway, the guy who got 5 years was considered irresponsible (unsound mind) and thats why he got a lower sentence.b, 21We have relatively low prison sentences here in Holland. The average sentence for a murder is about 9 years (it used to be 7 years about 15 years ago). We have life sentences but in reality they never exceed 25 years. And like the article said, under Dutch privacy laws, the surnames of convicted criminals are never released. b, 21I don't understand why the article starts with "AMSTERDAM, Netherlands" though, as this all happened in Groningen.
