"not much vocal?"b,121b,121a great blues instrumental is rarer than a virgin in a massage parlor. nothing worse than hearing a bunch of cats noodling around on a 12-bar progression without any real hook. but heres a couple i can recommend:b,121b,121b,121b,121

b,121b,121I said great blues instros were RARE, not NONEXISTENTb,121b,121b/wb,121b,121Not only was one of the records I mentioned by Albert Collins, but it was a repackaging of (mostly) instrumental sides he recorded in the early sixties for various labels. It doesn't include "Cookin' Catfish," unfortunately - I also recommend that one. I play it often at my soul nights. It appears on an Imperial album, Love Can Be Found Anywhere (Even In A Guitar), under another title.
Freddie King had a bunch of great records from the 60's to the mid 70's, with some big instrumentals like "Hideaway", "San-Ho-Zay", and "The Stumble,". Huge influence on the Brit Blues scene and SRV as well. There are a bunch of greatest hits you can start with. Here is a pretty bad-ass clip from 1970:b,121b,121
I'd absolutely second the Freddie King. Also add Mississippi John Hurt, Lightning Hopkins, Free Chicken N' Beer by John Lee Hooker, and Charlie Musslewhite for some boogie blues.
Heavy guitar, light on the vocals.b,121b,121Robben Ford Talk To Your Daughterb,121Shuggie Otis Kooper Sessionsb,121Snatch and the Poontangs (What? you call that vocals?)b,121b,121I'll second those above. That early Albert Collins stuff will blow your mind. b,121b,121As for stuff that influenced Jimmy Page. b,121Albert King - Born Under A Bad Signb,121Howling Wolf All the early stuff
