McCartney vs. Lennon

I know the cool hipster answer is to like Lennon, but I prefer McCartney. DEAL.

    b,121b,121I think we're actually at the point where McCartney is becoming the trendier pick, but whatevs. I like both of their output as Beatles about equally, but I definately prefer Lennon on the solo tip. Emitt Rhodes does solo McCartney better than McCartney, IMO, but I can't think of anyone that does solo Lennon like Lennon.

    It's hard to say, McCartney has made work for 38 years and had a big hand in the defined bass sound the Beatles would have in the second half of their career (roughly 1966-1969), he was very much on the technical side and knowledge of that has become more well known. While John had always been known for the "weird" and trippy sides of The Beatles, interviews have shown that Paul definitely helped shape things more significantly. Of course, Paul's able to defend himself while we're now hearing "John didn't know much about how to achieve a song, so he relied on me to translate".b,121b,121I think John had an incredible sense of what he wanted, and was able to get his lyrics and music out there. I wasn't aware Yoko Ono produced or had an actual hand in production (opposed to just a liner note credit) until the Gimmy Some Truth documentary came out about the making of Imagine[/b].b,121b,121Anyway, I like both, but time has allowed people to listen to Paul's music for more than just being goofy nonsense. In truth, Paul knew that sometimes all you needed was a good chorus and some great basslines, because what the hell is the jailor man, Sailor Sam, Uncle Albert, and the major who was a lady suffragette? I take his music up until around Press To Play[/b], or stuff like "Stranglehold" and "So Bad".b,121b,121I also think that as mainstream music has catered to more pop friendly music, people have looked back to his music and aren't afraid to say what has often been corny to say.

    The more interesting debate is whether you ride for Beatles era John vs Paul. That's where most mistakenly pick Lennon over Macca. Macca (Beatles work) > Lennon (Beatles work). Discuss.
