And how has that worked out for you?I'm lookin at this one record. Potential impulse buy here. Should I dive in blind? However, it's latin and looks like something Reynaldo would post in his weekend USPS deliveries thread so I'll probably get sniped and lose anyway. Please post all and any insight, anecdotes, confessions etc. Thanks,Chad

Ya, in my earliest ebay days I remember I bid on this 45 from dallas which was a cover of get out of my life woman by a group called the Soul uh Something or Others and it turned out to be the weakest shit ever. And I think I was out 27 bucks which at time was a lot... not really financially but pyschologically speaking.
I usually need at least one sound clip or some idea what it sounds like to bid.
So I shouldn't bid 80 for this Bob McGrath LP?
I've heard it before. I wouldn't spend more than $60
I KNEW IT!!!
Hahaha
nah but seriously, buying blind on the net is no different than buying blind in the field (espeically if you can't listen beforehand), except that you are likely gonna be paying more on-line. I take risks in both arenas, but these days, I am less inclined to do so on-line.
know the year and the producer you should have a good idea of the sound you are gonna get.
Not unlike hip-hop. But even then you end up with a turd now and again.

Rey? Can you win this and post it please? Thanks!
Ha! 5 out of 10?
Doesn't matter if you haven't heard it, just as long as you have a general outline of what kind of music it is.
Yeah, looking at that thread title you'd think the Strut was full of people who don't trust what they haven't heard on the radio.
There's actually a colossal difference: while I make a huge number of experiments locally, they're generally $3 or less... which wouldn't cover the shipping on most online purchases. I only bother buying something online when I really want it and don't think there will be much/any opportunity to find it around here.
But one was produced by Gary Usher, another was used by
F16C in a mix, another was on Cadet from 1971 and was a
licensed regional D.C. 45, another was a garage band doing
covers of Impressions & Temptations songs, and the last was
on a playlist for local hero PJ's "Galactic Fractures" show.
All this info made the $50 seem like a solid investment.
LP's are a little tougher although you can usually find more
info about them, personnel, etc. On eBay, not so much.
Which track, if I may ask???
right... i was pretty sure most people on here buy records they haven't heard at record stores - that's just kinda what this record thing is about - but the key word in thread title is "bid."
And there's a difference between gambling with a $7.99 buy it now and bidding nearly $70 on some mysterious record like I just did. I guess it all comes down to your disposable income though.

Good one.
I did buy a terd of an African 45 off of this board around the same time for $25...I believe it was listed as psychedilic Afro-funk, it was on editions makossa, so I figured it would be good..it was some Paul Simon graceland shit with moog squiggles...
