Hey, so I was looking at the Josie discography and it dawned on me "oh shit, there are a shitload of 45s on Josie that I don't even know. I'm wack!" So c'mon kids, recommend to me your faves. Two faves o mine:Willie West "Fairchild" & Gwen Owens "It ain't hardly over"For reference: http://www.globaldogproductions.info/j/josie.htmlNow it's your turn!**I say non Meters because as good as they are I'm trying to learn about records I don't know. Yea!

Mighty Hannibal "shame, shame" and Roy lee Johnson "Boogaloo #3"
The Cyril Neville is top shelf of course, but its the meters on that, so i am assuming it is disqualified...
"Last Kiss" b/w "That's How Much I Love You Baby," J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers***
"Peek-A-Boo," Cadillacs
"Love Can Turn To Hate," Honey & the Bees
"Betty Lou Got A New Pair Of Shoes," Bobby Freeman
"Do You Want To Dance," Bobby Freeman
"Sweeter As The Days Go By," Grover Mitchell
[color:red]***ah, you do know that not everything on Josie was R&B, right? nothing wrong with that, just making sure...[/color]
Um, isn't this the Meters?
followed closely by
Willie West - Fairchild
Um, isn't this the Meters?
I'm going with
Ripp Tide - Dynamite
Totally over-the-top swamp rock produced by Huey Meaux,
complete with explosion sound effects.
Also, really love Mighty Hannibal's "Shame Shame"
Did anybody mention their biggest hit, "Last Kiss" by
J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers? I do ride for it, a
real classic ... and the LP cover is pretty great:
How many "dead girlfriend" covers are there? Not too many, I assume.
I did, way back earlier in the thread. And the 45 had a lost rockabilly classic on the flip side, "That's How Much I Love You, Baby."
Yeah, everytime I see that one in used stores I wonder how they got away with that, back in that uptight era.
Sorry, I did "read" the whole thread but your list was soooo long
Have you ever heard the Ripp Tide 45? Knowing what I do of your
musical taste, I think you would probably dig it, at least for a laugh.
Da-kars "Shot in the Dark"/"Sittin on the dock of the bay"
Mary Love "If you change your mind"/"The hurt is just beginning"
A list of seven songs - long??? :-)
Well, you did mention "swamp rock" and "Huey Meaux," so without hearing it I can tell that it might be up my alley!
If you're going to use that criteria to disqualify a record, there are going to be a LOT of them, including the Cyril Neville, about half the records on the Sansu label, most of Lee Dorsey's later stuff, and on, and on, and on...
Right, but we're only talking about "non-Meters" 45's on Josie[/b], not
any other label, and Cyril Neville was already DQ'ed above for the same
reason. But don't think I'm all that worked up over it, just saying, Cyril
Neville and Willie West are at least in a way Meters 45's.
yas Pickwick. Jimmy Rabbit Wishy Washy Woman is not r&B.
And to be clear, I was just saying not Meters as an artist 'cause I know those tunes and a buncha dudes chiming in voting for "hey last minute" wouldn't really wouldn't really be all that educational. However, if there is another track backed by the meters on that label that isn't Cyril or Willie West, I'd love to know about it!
But to be more specific, who knows these:
T.J. Williams
and Two Shades of Soul Since I Fell For You
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby, I Need You
Gloria Johnson These Arms Of Mine
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Give You Plenty Lovin'
Soul Duo This Is Your Day
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are You Lonely For Me Baby
Titus Turner His Funeral, My Trial
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do You Dig It
Fats Drum Daddy I Need Your Lovin' - Part 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Need Your Lovin' - Part 2
This one is on the big "What It Is" box set.
"Do You Dig It" is mid-tempo funky R&B, "His Funeral My Trial"
more straight-ahead bluesy R&B. Here's a clip of "Dig It" :

Ahh... I had no idea the meters were backing him on that single. Nice to know.
not too hard to do, since Jamie distributed Josie
